The Essence live cd is fantastic. The band is great, and Lu’s stories and background on songs is wonderful, eapecially her memories of her mother.
Got them off Discogs. Been waiting for years for these to be re-released, but I’m 65 and there’s only so much time for the old guard.
Just received the new 2lp set. It sounds great and looks tasty except
for two 2-inch seam splits at the top of the record jackets, due to the records sliding around in shipment.
I’ve asked Port Merch for a replacement jacket. We’ll see if they can provide.

On a different subject, let me know if you need a 2lp orange vinyl of Essence. I accidentally bought two copies!
JackAt the Iron Horse in Northampton, around right after the Rough Trade album came out. Lu played with Gurf, and I think the price was $8.50 a ticket. Fell in love with her right then and have been seeing her in Northampton and other New England locations for over thirty years now.
An unbelievable, emotional concert. I’ve been seeing Lu since the Gurf duo days, and the concert last Saturday was up there with the best. The theater was a hair short of sold out, the crowd showered her with love, she admitted she felt very comfortable, and some tears were shed hearing her beautiful songs sung in that soothing voice. It’s two days later now and we can’t keep from discussing and reliving that magical night. See this tour. I wish I could, again.
