I was fortunate enough to have been in San Francisco this past week. Sure glad I checked Lucinda’s tour schedule and was able to score a pair of FRONT ROW seats.
This was my 5th and best Lu show. As she said numerous times, the sound was awesome. At the front of the stage there was a subtle reverberation echo from the back wall of the ampitheater which created a wonderful sense of space and presence to the sound. I did notice however the quality of the sound dropped significantly about half way back near the sound board.
I took a picture of the setlist taped to the floor of the stage. She deviated from it in regards to the encore only. She dropped ‘Overtime’ and ‘Hard Time Killing Floor’ replacing with ‘I Live My Life’ and ‘Its A Long Way to the Top (If You Want to Rock n Roll)’. The ACDC cover floored me! I had no idea she had recorded this track for her upcoming album.
This was the first time i had heard the latest incarnation of her supporting band. Of course, Pettibone was great as usual. The other guitarist (Chet?) was out of this world. Of course, i was seated directly in front of his stack so his guitar overpowered Doug’s from my vantage point. The dual guitar interplay was a site to behold (and hear!). I cant wait to find the time to listen to the 5 disc LA set i picked up which apparently was recorded with this same lineup.
The venue was an ideal setting for a Lucinda show. Temp was perfect (at least for me, but then again Im from South Louisiana and didnt find it remotely warm). For those of you that live in the area, Im very jealous. Sounds like there are a number of great shows coming to the Mountain Winery. Enjoy!
