I was indeed talking about Leonard Cohen, who is mentioned in the lyrics but does not appear on the record- and neither does JCM.

I think its safe to say there will be a headlining tour beginning at the end of Aug.
And I think it’s fair to note with all due respect, that Mr. Mellencamp is a very big fan, having covered Lafayette a few albums back– and he has wanted her to open for him for several years.

Sorry to be a bubble buster but its not Leonard. Although his name is mentioned in the lyrics of one of the new songs.

More shows will be announced soon, including a string of shows in July opening for a recent RR HOF inductee. The San Diego show was originally 9/4 for about a day and then was moved to 8/26. There will also be an appearance at Bumbershoot in Seattle at the end of August.
    No plans for Europe yet.

The album that was referred to in that article is happening -and actually has been recorded for quite some time. It is being handled by some peopl in Bob Dylan’s camp and a very select group of artists were given a sets of lyrics written by Hank that had never had music put to them. The artists could chose one song first come first serve to record and also receive co-writing credit. Lucinda was one of the artists asked to participate and chose a song called I Am So Happy I Found You that she recorded over a year ago. The record has apparently been on hold at Sony but is supposedly coming out later this year.

Must be some psychics around here–Lucinda got up during Tim Easton’s set at SXSW and sang Meet Me In The Morning–maybe it could happen again?

The only outside musician on the record as of now is Rob Burger who played keyboards and various other instruments–he played on West also.
There is quite a list of backing vocalists – but not sure if I can give those up yet. Besides everyone said they liked surprises….

Can’t really say until the final decisions are made what will make the cut and what won’t. Besides, some surprises are good –right?

It is also on the Alejandro Escovedo benefit album, which is called Por Vida.
Lots of great people on it.

The new record will definitely be out by Aug/Sept. It’s all recorded– with just mixing left starting 3/17, so its ahead of schedule to release in that time frame. Not a big deal but just for the record (no pun intended) West was not held because of the CWOAG Deluxe –new releases always take precendent over re-issues when it comes to scheduling. It was held because there were some unique issues/problems with the making of that record that caused some delays. At one point it was originally scheduled for Sept. 06 and then mid Oct. Once you get into Nov. its best hold it to the new year instead of getting lost in the crush of Q4 releases. In the end it ended up not even being a question with West, because it just wasn’t ready in time for late 06.
Right now, barring something completely crazy, there is nothing that would delay the new record- which will probably be in Aug – with RT record likely now to follow in Oct. and there goes 2008.

Not at all, they are very aware of the NY/LA shows and second sets, but the immediate focus will be on the new record, which they are very excited about.
