Well, if I had to recommend only one French record to Lucinda Williams and her fans… Give me a favor, and listen to that marvel! (recorded in Memphis in July 1991, with guitarists Sonny Landreth and Bernie Leadon, among others).

Sounds predictable, but actually it’s not, and I have to say it here: among the many albums released this year I’ve listened to so far, my number one favorite is… West.

There is not any mention of AMACKER in the booklet… Where do you know that from?

Well, I’d say Randy Weeks “Can’t Let Go”

He’s been very important for me. I can’t live without Our Mother The Mountain and the self-titled follow up album. I’ve never heard so tender, moving, poetic ballads. His guitar playing is so delicate. Something about his voice and music is more deeply intimate to my ears than most other singer songwriters.

    Lonely Girls

not counting the new songs yet (too soon to tell)

Shiiiiit! I had written a review here and it disappeared in the cyberspace!

    This forum technically sucks!

So, I sum it up: this album is a masterpiece!

West goes to your blood. Lu never sounded so focused, the sound is perfect to support her voice and music. Here, more than ever, she holds you tight in her arms, it’s the comfort zone, Heaven.

Great, great record. Think of it like an improvement over Essence, the same flow qualities from start to finish, but more rich again, and more beautiful.

In the latest weeks, I purchased the last albums of several favorite artists of mine: Kristin Hersh, Patty Griffin, Julie Doiron, Christine Lavin, Matthew Ryan, Chris Moore, Maria McKee, Tanya Donelly, etc…

and I’m still anticipating Lu’s new one in the mail.

“Sidewalks of the City” is my favorite song on Sweet Old World, along with the title-track. 😉

I listen to a lot of music, but if I had to recommend a record released this year to Lucinda Williams fans, it’d be Jolie Holland’s Springtime Can Kill You. It doesn’t rock, but it’s got this moody, haunting charm of Essence, with a folk-jazz touch. Pure poetry.
