homosacerParticipant
yeah, Tom Waits
homosacerParticipantwith all due respect, am I the only one who didn’t like David Byrne’s voice? It was too shallow and he had a hard time hitting notes in Over Time and especially that white-boy cover of Take Me to the River he did. On his songs I thought he sounded good, but Lord Jesus on the others……
homosacerParticipantwho cares about the book. most artists use teleprompters and a lot of big names fucking lip-synch. i want her to get all those words right anyways.
last time i saw patti smith do birdland she donned reading glasses and held one of her books of poetry (not a binder like lucinda, like the book you can go to barnes + noble and buy) and read from it…
homosacerParticipantalso, that Angel girl was just horrible–I didn’t see the point!
homosacerParticipantso I’ve been running a tally in my head each night of what songs I think sounded the best (I haven;t bought the CDs so this is going on memory) but last night, I think Memphis Pearl and Which Will sounded the best, et tu?
Also, anyone else loving Fionn Regan or is it just me? I liked both songs, but the song he did w/ the band (same one he did on Sunday night) was just great.
homosacerParticipantI was wondering that myself. He was treated pretty poorly during his set on Saturday and didn’t even play a set aside from his one-song “special guest” appearance during sunday’s. Maybe he was put off.
The kid’s really talented. I’ve been listening to him since Saturday. He just needs to lose the ascott.
homosacerParticipantokay, I’ll admit that Jesse had high energy and even that I even sort of liked the first song…but then you have to admit that that second song was a total joke! Not that I think it’s true, but I almost felt like he could have been pulling an Andy Kaufman on us…that shit was so bad!
Fionn was great too when he played w/ Lucinda’s band on Sunday.
homosacerParticipantanyone else like Lucinda’s temper? I know it keeps me on my toes.
Also, just for the record, Mr. Earles’ comb-over was DISTRACTING! 😆
homosacerParticipantI have mixed feelings about last night. First off, I’ve been to all three NYC shows so far and will definitely go to the next two and the one’s at Irving Plaza were really fucking amazing—her energy, the band, the song choices in the second set were all spot on.
that said, she came out in a bad mood last night and it got progressively worse over the duration over the show. this isn’t to say that it bothers me to see a moody lucinda–truth be told, I kind of like it. i like that she’s honest about her emotions and is still a mystery. anyways, what bummed me out was that a) with a few exceptions, she didn’t seem too excited about the Car Wheels songs. Maybe because she performs them so much? Honestly, other than the fact that I was expecting better special guests last night of all nights, the Car Wheels night was the one I was least pumped for–not that I don’t love the album but it’s been done so much.
Anyways, few other complaints:
a) Steve Earl annoyed me. First with his disruptive comb over, then with his awkward acoustic guitar intro to Joy, then by fucking up Jailhouse Tears by not looking at the words ont he lyric sheet and trying to ham it up too much during the verses, and finally just by acting all too entitled to be there. I don’t hate him per se, I quite liked the two songs of his that were performed..I just think he took away from Lucinda’s stuff.b) Who the hell was that Jesse guy? During his solo acoustic number I felt like I was at a taping of SNL—-he was a total joke. From his horrible lyrics to his really weird bellowing to his Early ’90 My-So-Called-Life nostalgia and dress he really put me in a funk.
c) I actually like Fionn Regan and would have liked him to play more than a song. It was tacky when the audience clapped about there being no opener. I say go with the good opener and skip some of the pointless guests.
d) after raving about him for two days, Lucinda totally shafted Jim Lauderdale. I would have like him for Jailhouse Tears and his solo songs would have fit in much mor ethan Jesse Whoever.
e) I like Words and think it’s a great song but I don’t care too much about seeing it live. It sucked when Lucinda made it almost to the end of the song then yelled about the sound in her earphones not being intimate enough and then we had to revisit it, taking away time.
f)I love Town Hall, but the celebratory and participatory feel of the first two shows was taken away by the stoggy nature of the venue.
I guess this makes it seem like I had a bad night. I didn’t. It’s just that there were some obviously strange things going on and lots of events an dpeople keeping the show from being as good as it should have been.
Oh, and I think Lucinda was referring to Ryan Adams and not Fionn Regan when she talked about “some people” just walking off the stage. Fionn didn’t walk off the stage at Irving Plaza, he just kind of acted a little prick-ish is all.
homosacerParticipantthanks for posting that, rrsj
homosacerParticipantOh good lord.
There is enough empty “recognition” of the troops without any critical analysis of this country’s foreign policy going on today. Questioning the war and calling for its end does a gretter service to the troops than any sentimental bullshit….

homosacerParticipantis the ACL set online for folks to watch?
homosacerParticipantblah blah blah……but is there somewhere where I can watch her ACL performance?
homosacerParticipantyes, I second this request!
Also, anyone know where to find an mp3 of her version of hang down your head that appears on the LP version of WWT?
homosacerParticipanta kind soul at Indigo Girls’ message board found a link to a downloadable file of their set at ACL. Is there such a place where I can find Lucinda?
Seriously doubting that she wasn’t fantastic,
T
