Ah, finally – this dog’s been waitin’ for a new bone. Some of the songs I’ve never heard before and anything LU wants to record, I’d like to hear.
highseasParticipantI’m a 61 year old hippie with a haircut. I discovered LU just last year and like ya’ll it was a total love that “lit my fire” for, let’s admit it, better or worse. I love everything LU sings. It was a total rush, a feeling that I’d never experienced before. I think I said it well in a previous post that her lyrics, although fairly simple in their form are profound, or something like that. I’m not very good at getting my feelings from the gray matter to my fingers to the forum post. Jagger and Richards and company have been my main source of rock music, since the sixties. They are amazing guys, totally committed to the cause. I remember when I was 20ish, hitch-hiking on a dark road somewhere in the middle of North Carolina in the middle of the night heading for Florida for no good reason. It was pitch black deep in the woods of N.C., scary and solitary, and I sang “Down Home Girl” at the top of my lungs for company and I was happy and unafraid and naieve.
Anyway, enough rambling. Excuse me! Thanks LU for your music. This guy loves it ALL!!!
highseasParticipantWell, it’s fun to get to vent feelings somewhere, so thanks for humoring me. I grew up with the Beatles, Stones, Zeppelin and lots of others and I’d never heard Lucinda’s music until I heard “Jailhouse Tears” on a local radio station. It really struck a chord with me because I had a court appearance coming up. I got lucky and got probation. Anyway, I love LW and EC on that song and went out and bought LW at the Filmore and was completely impressed. Not just by her beautiful voice but also by the lyrics, so simple but somehow profound. It’s hard to explain in words how music moves a person.
But, I digress. Sorry. LW can count on me as a solid fan until I go for my dirt nap.highseasParticipantWell DiM — I’m just one of the obscure of the huddled masses. Unfortunately, the dilemma you mention is real in our world wouldn’t you say? How do you respond to criticism as damning as the rubbish coming from the “Spectrum Culture”? “When in Rome…..!” I don’t know much about music except how it makes me feel and Lucinda is extra special to my ears. I still think that person at “Spectrum Culture” doesn’t get it (in my inferior opinion) . So please bear with me as I flounder around on this “message board”. I know that the “Spectrum Culture” people have every right to dis whomever they want.
I don’t want to damage the image you are trying to create on this forum. As a matter of fact I applaud your efforts to reach the higher ground, really! I think I lack the education to communicate on that level all the time. Plus, I’ve been in a foul mood all day. Voila!!
highseasParticipantThis is the “most disappointing” article I’ve ever read. In a time when people should strive to get on with one another, this idiot has the gall to dis Lucinda — there can be no reason for this but for the fact that that guy just “doesn’t get” Lucindas music. It’s easier to criticize than to praise — it’s easier to frown than smile. I’m not going to waste my time trying to prove that guy wrong — he’s not wrong, he just doesn’t get it and probably won’t for the rest of this life. Shoot, I think ballet is weird but I don’t tell the world about it. I’m also full of contradictions, but at least some times I try.
By the way David in Maine, you still sound like an a))hole. I think the Filmore 2005 album should be in the top ten rock, blues, country of all time. I love Lucinda and wish David in Maine wouldn”t sound so much like a pompous a)).
Hope I haven’t offended anyone!! PEACE AND LOVE TO ALL !!!!
highseasParticipantMaybe something by “CREAM” — “White Room” – “Crossroads” ???
highseasParticipantRandom thoughts on 2008: I think that George Bush was one of the “most unqualified” presidents in U.S. history. But then again, I am not an historian. It’s true that we have not suffered another terrorist attack during his administration — I think that is the only positive achievement of his Presidency but it is praiseworthy, for sure.
So this aging semi-ex-hippy, who is a huge fan of LW, totally agrees with Williams words at the end of the Filmore record — “peace, LOVE and revolution”.highseasParticipantYeah, that’s right DavidinMaine – you don’t know what it means. Ask me nice and I’ll tell ya’.
highseasParticipantI’ve only recently started listening to LW and I am, to put it simply — IN LOVE. Old Tomboy is one lucky dude!! The only time I would criticize any of her albums would be if she recorded it standing on her head. Seriously, when Lucinda Williams puts her mind and talents into making music it would be safe to say that the results will be “high quality” art. My favorite song was ” Long Way To The Top” and I LOVE the whole album. This dog eagerly awaits his next bone, so PLEASE Lucinda – keep those albums coming.
highseasParticipantThanks Lefty — I’d heard of Austin City Limits – Thanks again!
thighseasParticipantI’ve just recently discovered LW + have a question — would appreciate some info. Where can I view the 2007 performance on Jan. 3 ? Also – what is “ACL”? Thanks.
highseasParticipantNice article – very interesting. I just want to give a little praise where it is due. I’ve just recently found Lucindas’ music and was knocked out. She is more than amazing. I’m speechless, seriously!!! And I’m not trying to sell her albums. The concert at the Filmore is an amazing collection of songs. She talks the talk because she has walked the walk. You can hear it in her voice and her lyrics are always poignant and unique to herself.
