Oh, and by the way, I first heard Lucinda Williams via an (illegal) download from the newsgroups, I went out soon after and purchased all of the CDs of hers I could find. I have also downloaded a large number of bootlegs and rarities that are not available commercially. I ceased purchasing music from RIAA related labels a few years ago. I would happily send her money directly for her more recent work.

I will continue to support ways of getting money into her pockets for her wonderful, wonderful work, as long as it does not put (more) money into the hands of evil empires such as the RIAA.

I would love to see her add her name to the small but growing list of artists that are boycotting the RIAA ( http://www.boycott-riaa.com/artists ), and am placing similar requests/ posts to ALL of the musicians I listen to. My post was far from an attempt to single out Lucinda, but rather an attempt to appeal to her well-documented sense of independence, which I feel is part of what has fostered her unique and impressive musical career.

If you read my whole post, you will note that I said ‘if you make it possible to pay you directly I will’

Yes, Ticketmaster is a rip off as well, and there are ways around that, but one battle at a time.

I am no longer going to purchase ANY music that nets a dime for the RIAA, I will download everything, and offer to pay the artists directly, and try to get the artists to setup easy ways for people to do so.
