I think that the reason for the very high number of start overs in this week’s shows is that they were being recorded for posterity (as if there weren’t people recording nearly all her shows, LOL) and Lu wanted them to be as perfect as possible. Start overs are not uncommon with her, but I’ve never seen so many in one show/series of shows.

Byrne was great. He did “Naked” and “Heaven”. Lucinda said that “Heaven” was a favorite of hers. She looked to be in heaven when Byrne was there, jumping around like a little kid.

My only disappointment was that she did “Passionate Kisses” totally solo.

Overall, another great show and Lucinda was in a great mood. She even brought her fiance out for a kiss on stage.

Yes, last night at the Sweet Old World show she expressed some frustration that it (SOW) is not kept in print all the time. She was hoping to eventually get back the rights to it.

She did Jailhouse Tears last year at the Beacon in New York with Elvis Costello doing the male part.

Doug is great and adds so much to Lucinda’s shows. Let’s not get carried away, however. Personally I’ll take both Gurf Morlix and Kenny Vaughn over Doug. The best Lucinda shows I’ve seen all had both Kenny Vaughn and Bo Ramsey. What a combo!

Concerning the fellow who shouted that we couldn’t hear Doug’s guitar. He was right, it was way too low in the mix. Lucinda didn’t seem at all bothered by that. To the contrary, she seemed to be pleased by it – one that the audience gave it’s input, and two, that the audience knew who he was. The band had not yet been introduced.

As far as the temper goes, those of us who have seen many shows can be amused by it, but those who haven’t had that opportunity are getting screwed.

Last night’s show (Sweet Old World) was sooo much better than the previous night. I’ve seen worse meltdowns from Lucinda and the best Lucinda show I’ve ever seen (at the Birchmere) had a far worse meltdown. When there was a startover last night, it was fun. She completely re-arranged “Sidewalks Of the City” on the fly and it really worked. It was amusing to see her take the acoustic away from Doug, assign him back to the electric, and move Chet from pedal steel to keyboards. Then invite the back up singers back on stage where they delivered impromptu backing vocals that were a fantastic addition to the arrangement. We also got some humor as the singers had joined the audience and had a bit of trouble getting back to the stage. You can hear the audience laughing at this on the disc.

By the way, I listened to the entire cd from the show and the sound was actually much clearer and better on the cd than it was in the theatre. We could not hear Jim Lauderdale’s vocals in the audience, but they come through loud and clear on the disc.

Does anyone know if the Mia Ciambotti who sang back up last night is related to Lucinda’s former bass-man? She is one hell of a good singer.

Looking forward to “Lucinda Willams” in its entirety tonight.

Just a minor correction on the set list. The Doors cover was done within “Joy”, as when they completed “Riders On the Storm”, they phased back into the closing phrases of “Joy”. Chet’s keyboards added a lot to the sound, especially on “Riders”.
