I live in San Francisco and have attended many shows at the Shoreline including a number of Bridge Benefits. I don’t own a car and yes public transportation is a hassle. To get there it is possible to take the train that runs between San Jose and SF and then walk to the venue. It is probably a few miles. I am a fast walker and it can take me at least a half hour. That would not be so bad, except the last train leaves around 10pm so for at least one Bridge show I stayed just long enough to see Patti Smith and then ran, which sucked. More often I stay at a motel in Mountain View, walking to and from the show. But at least once, my mind a little addled, I got lost on my way back to the motel and was walking around for about 2 hours before I got there. This was in the days before easily available GPS and Google maps. A local taxi may be able to get you to your motel a bit faster. Mountain View is pretty safe, even late at night, although the quickest path from the motel I used to the venue goes along a creek that I avoid on the way back as it can get very dark. So yes, it can be done on the cheap. But if you are not a walker or a drinker, then driving from SJ or SF is best. And make sure you leave plenty of time as getting into and out of the parking lots can take awhile. Frankly its been awhile since I have been to the Shoreline precisely because of this hassle and I am not exactly sure of the name of the motel I used but I might be able to come up with it if interested.
FinehParticipantThanks so much. My memory might have been a little impaired but that is indeed the song. It has been in the back of my mind for almost fifteen years and it is so gratifying to finally identify it. And thanks for the link. Seeing as I have seen Lucinda many times when she has come to the SF Bay Area I can’t believe I missed that show at Slims. For years I have been calling out for Hot Blood and have only received a whimsical smile from the stage so it is good to finally hear it performed live. Thanks again for making my day.
