“West” was an oddity that night,

West was my request….I have just always loved this song. When I saw Manny getting the setlist ready and saw “West” on there I was very happy. I kind of said it aloud..”, .Oh There’s West…I guess my request was granted” Butch chimed in with great…we don’t play that one enough…

Good report Stoger. I was just getting ready to post the setlist, but you saved me the trouble. Mayor Randy Roach presented Lu the keys to the city and proclamation stating Lucinda Williams Day in Lake Chuck. I visited with him about 45 min before the start and he told me a great story…after Hurricane Rita devastated SW La., he went to Washington pleading for federal aid. Upon meeting Senate Majority leader Harry Reid and stating he was from Lake Charles, the first thing out of Reid’s mouth was”Lucinda Williams”

I repeated the story to Lu after the show and she loved it. She was truly touched by the whole evening and I got to hear “West” special request by yours truly.

I really enjoyed working with Lu, Tom,band and crew…they are truly a class act and I look forward to some Lafayette shows in the Fall…..

I plan on being there. Should be a great show with Lu, Joe Ely and of course the wonderful Alejandro.

Yep, I am hoping to make that show. I am still not sure if I will go Sunday or Monday, but I will def make one of them.I will be driving in from Lafayette. Frank and Tony Productions brought Lu to Lafayette a couple of years ago, and hope to have her back soon.

Chuck played this gig on Sunday the 28th. I booked him to open for Alejandro for a Tuesday evening the 30th show in Lafayette. We had a near sellout in our intimate 268 seat venue. It was an amazing show from two great singer/songwriters, and a dream pairing for me. Chuck was a real pro and a pleasure to be around. Dinner the evening before, then off for a KRVS radio live performance the day of the show. Alejandro also did a phone interview at the same time.

I have been fortunate to be able to bring these great artists into Lafayette for some really cool intimate shows. From Lu, to Graham Parker, to Chuck and Alejandro and Paul Thorn, we have had some great shows…and more to come.

In summary, a good evening of music–a more attentive and quieter audience might have helped..

I just have never been able to understand why folks pay good $$$ to go see an artist, and then talk throughout the performance. Incredibly rude to artist and to others who are there to listen, not talk over the performer. I loved it when Bruce was doing his acoustic tours and had his STFU speech before the show started.

You can add the Lafayette, La. show of May 3rd as a sellout also.

This sounds prospective, even if the total capacity is on the low-for-Lu side. Wasn’t Lucinda scheduled to play some venue in Lafayette post-Katrina–an event that got cancelled by the NEXT hurricane? Sorry, I can’t remember its name. At any rate, I bet you have Sonny Landreth already booked in your new space. .

Sonny plus Zachary Richard, Ani Difranco played a sort of housewarming show at the new theater in September for a benefit for the Gulf. Lu was scheduled to play a benefit back in 05 after Katrina , at Grant St. Dancehall IIRC. BTW I’ll see Sonny and Steve Conn Saturday evening in the new theater again. The new space is really fantastic, with incredible acoustics. I am hoping that we get many more quality acts because we now have the venue for these types of artists to perform in.

We just opened a new state of the art theater in Lafayette, La. at the Acadiana Center for the Arts. Lyle Lovett and his Large Band was the first act to play at this new theater a few weeks ago. It seats approximately 300. Seems like Lucinda would be a great fit for this venue. And it’s just down I-10 from NOLA on the way to Houston.

I caught Doug Saturday evening. He was accompanying Mariane Faithfull at a benefit show In Lafayette, La.
Zachary Richard, Sonny Landreth and Ani Difranco.. Very nice performances by all……but Marianne Faithfull was very, very, poor. I felt sorry for Doug….he did a good job under trying circumstances. I could only think back to how good Lu and Doug sound together. Maybe someday…
