No one will be playing the Brooklyn Bowl again as it closed in January this year! 🙂
I actually enjoyed both the BB shows in spite of the retail hell experience and the trek out east. However it was great to see Lucinda back at the SB Empire after so many years and she certainly seemed to enjoy it a whole lot more! (understatement) 😉
PS I haven’t bothered posting a setlist for the Bexhill show as the full performance is available on Facebook but I will if anyone wants it.
ExileOnVainStreetParticipantThe 2005 UK shows were postponed and that show didn’t happen, that particular one was eventually rescheduled for Sunday 12 November 2006.
ExileOnVainStreetParticipantI think you might have the wrong date, ticketmaster.nl is saying 30th August not September for the Paradiso show and is currently “Not on sale yet”.
🙂
ExileOnVainStreetParticipantTwo more UK shows announced…
6 July – Newcastle at the Tyne Theatre & Opera House (billed with Stuart Mathis)
7 July – Glasgow at the City HallsExileOnVainStreetParticipantLooks like some of us missed a second encore…
http://www.brooklynbowl.com/blog/photos-reviews/ucinda-williams-delivers-the-most-perfect-of-pleasures/ExileOnVainStreetParticipantI concur with BrianH’s comments about the venue & sound. I went to both nights and enjoyed both immensely. I also thought the sightlines were great and much better than the SB Empire which seems to slope downwards as you move further away from the stage.
Well worth the trek out east, I guess it was a case of triumph over adversity for Lucinda.
ExileOnVainStreetParticipantTickets in the bag, looking forward to a couple of great shows in London, it’s been a while…
As ever thanks to all the regular posters on here for keeping us informed of recent shows etc.
😀
ExileOnVainStreetParticipantFantastic fearless reporting Stoger, always a pleasure to read.
I would guess that Should I Stay Or Should I Go might be a cover of The Clash song from their “stadium” era which itself has more than a passing resemblence to Little Latin Lupe Lu by The Righteous Brothers.
ExileOnVainStreetParticipantI also saw this on Friday, a very enjoyable compilation of performances, the Bobbie Gentry one was mesmerizing. Had never seen the Lucinda before, it was an unexpected & pleasant surprise.
I’m pretty sure the guitarist is Gurf Morlix and it’s now popped up on good ol’ youtube…

(I’m guessing this link may not work for people outside the UK)
Looks like I got it mixed up about the Stones in my Liverpool post, they played on the Sat night not the Sun. Anyway I recorded the main BBC2 four hour highlights show for the Sunday and speed-watched in the early hours after getting back, there was absolutely nothing from Lucinda in it. 😥
ExileOnVainStreetParticipantGreat photos Moondance, I wish I had got to grips with my new phone a bit earlier then I would have been able to post some decent ones from the Liverpool show.
A few slighly hazy recollections…Lucinda really seemed to enjoy the show, I think she said it was probably her favourite venue of the tour so far. It really is a beautiful venue as the photos indicate and the sound was excellent too. There were lots of song introductions including how Doug was about to play the bad boy part in Jailhouse Tears. She also commented after playing JWTSYSB on how well it went and how they should play it more often. I think she said that both JWTSYSB and The Night’s Too Long were requested. SAWHWWT was a rare and personal highlight for me.

A review from York

A pretty fair review, Lucinda did mention the “moat” between the band and the audience later on. Also the stage was pretty high and I suffered from a bit of a sore neck afterwards. It was all kind of ironic for me what with it being the smallest venue I’ve ever seen her play in, being in the second row and it being billed as an “Intimate Evening With…”.
She obviously didn’t feel too good about it from the start as there was very little in the way of song introductions all the way through however I was surprised when she commented about the lack of audience response.
I felt the sound, although very good, could have been a bit louder, though I was in the middle of the row and probably wasn’t get the full sound from what seemed like a limited house PA system.
All in all a very worthwhile and enjoyable show despite reservations from both the audience and performer!
ExileOnVainStreetParticipantThe set list…
Side Of The Road (with Doug)
Car Wheels On A Gravel Road
Pineola (including a false start due to Lucinda being in the wrong key)
Greenville
Jackson
Fruits Of My Labor
When I Look At The World
Blue
Concrete & Barbed Wire
Drunken Angel
Blessed
Hard Time Killing Floor Blues
Real Live Bleeding etc
Essence
Changed The Locks
Joy
Passionate Kisses (with Doug)
Overtime
Factory
Everything But The Truth
Get Right With GodHad a great seat in the front row on the right hand side, there was a little wedge type monitor pointed towards the audience just a few feet in front of me, the sound was absolutely superb, the acoustics of the hall were pretty special and commented on by Lucinda. I could also hear all the off mic chatter, scrapes and clicks between songs including Doug sneezing during the spoken intro to Drunken Angel.
There was a nice bit of capo adjustment by Lucinda at the start of RLBF&BGS on striking the first chord she obviously noticed something wasn’t right and quickly moved it from the third to the second fret followed by a knowing smile towards Doug.
Nice to get Side Of The Road, a tour debut for me, and also Passionate Kisses with Doug on lead was a bonus. Lots of shouted requests (including two from me) when they came back for an encore but Lucinda seemed to have already decided on what they where going to play.
A really memorable show which seemed to fly by for me and was appreciated by both audience and band.
Looking forward to catching some of the Glastonbury set via the BBC’s blanket coverage, although I hear that only some of the Stones’ show will be broadcast live, mind you I’ll be in the Olympic Park then watching Brooce & the Flamin’ Groovies!
ExileOnVainStreetParticipantOne small correction Just Wanted To See You Bad and not Car Wheels was played.
I’m still on holiday (vacation) with only a smartphone to hand, will post comments on York, Buxton & forthcoming Liverpool show when I get back.
