“Train in the Distance”
Drunken AngelParticipant…my sin was the sweetest love…
Oh wow.
Drunken AngelParticipantTerrible review from this particular site – except for this:
Dalton’s own songs draw on that “authentic ‘folk’ background”—the lyrics are often lullabyish, sometimes deliberately obscure. Of course if Dalton made every cover her own, the artists on Remembering Mountains attempt the same, with mixed results. The standout track is certainly Lucinda Williams’ “Met An Old Friend”—the only straightforward verse-chorus song on the album—with Doug Pettibone offering some terrific slide guitar work.

Drunken AngelParticipantThanks for the info, Tom! Looking forward to it.
Drunken AngelParticipantI wasn’t aware that you are from the Bristol area, Stoger. 2 cool indeed!
I wasn’t expecting Lu to be doing the Rough Trade set but thought the chances might be favorable since ‘Like a Rose’ has been fresh on her tongue lately (again) and the fact that there will be about 10,000 fiddle players at the festival no doubt willing to set in with her for a tune or two. No matter what she plays, I’m just excited to be going. I’d think that Jim Lauderdale would have to squeeze onstage with her at some point. Will have to check the schedule lineups to see if they conflict.
It would be great to maybe have a beer with you and/or anyone else from here who might be in attendance. Will PM my phone # and such later on.
We are there for the whole weekend, looking forward Iris, Caitlin Rose and so many others. Can’t wait!Drunken AngelParticipant“The Man Who Wants You”

Drunken AngelParticipantI am hoping I get to go to the Bristol Roots & Rhythm Festival this Sept. where Iris will be performing.
As well as a lady with the last name of Williams.
Drunken AngelParticipantFrom today’s newsletter:
Blue Note Records has announced that the new Amos Lee album, Mountains Of Sorrow, Rivers Of Song, will be released on October 1.
Mountains Of Sorrow, Rivers Of Song, produced by Jay Joyce, features guest appearances by two legendary ladies — Allison Krauss joins Amos on “Chill In The Air” and Patty Griffin sings harmony on “Mountains of Sorrow,” a song inspired by Amos’s visit to Levon Helm’s barn in Woodstock, where he appeared at the legendary drummer’s Midnight Ramble not long before Helm’s death.
The new record is the first to feature Amos’s long-time touring band — comprising Freddie Berman, Zach Djanikian, Andy Keenan and Jaron Olevsky — and the first album ever recorded at St. Charles, producer Joyce’s brand new studio, housed in a converted church in East Nashville.
On recording the 12 new songs in Nashville, Amos says, “I’ve always enjoyed it down there, so I thought I’d bring my band and see how a bunch of Philly guys fit in.”
Stay tuned for more details on Mountains Of Sorrow, Rivers Of Song as they become available, including info on how you can pre-order the album direct from AmosLee.com.

I had been wondering what effect, if any, Patty’s relationship with Robert Plant would have on her own music.
No worries there. And I really like the 3 songs where Plant adds vocals.Drunken AngelParticipantYou beat me to it, LWj.
I had no idea it would be presented on the show as a duet with “Rayna James” and Brad Paisley. In the context of what the TV show actually is, I guess the version was fairly tolerable. It’s much better than Connie Britton’s solo version, IMO.Drunken AngelParticipantI’m in complete agreement with everything LWj wrote!
And thanks for all the links.
Drunken AngelParticipantThanks for that info, DavidK!
I have been hanging with the show (for better or worse) and Bitter Memory still hasn’t been in an episode yet.
Drunken AngelParticipantI hope this doesn’t mean the two won’t collaborate in the future. While I am a fan of Kasey’s early music, the work produced by the two of them really made her voice shine and strengthened her music , IMO.
Drunken AngelParticipantLoving what I’ve heard of Patty’s new album so far!
Several new songs from Patty at the Bing Lounge:

Drunken AngelParticipantAmos’ version of “Some Days Are Diamonds” is absolutely wonderful.
Just got this seconds ago in an email:
