In addition to that night- Lucinda’s crew set us up with backstage passes for the Essence and Car Wheels shows in NYC this past September- They all remembered us well from the summer and were all smiles. We spent most of the first night with Mark Humphries- great memories continued- Hopefully we will hook up again in July-

First of all I want to set the record straight about my comments about Butch. Last night he was fantastic! He supported the songs beautifully and never over played- He was solid as a rock- Sorry for underestimating him-
    So last night…..
I thought the Car Wheels set was amazing! As she stated the other night this is her baby and she was certainly coddling it last night. Everything seemed to be going great until someone asked Doug to turn up his guitar. I thought the mix was just fine from the balcony anyway. This comment however seemed to start her spinning- Then her insecurities began to take over. Sometimes the most beautiful souls are the most fragile.
Anyway I was goose bumped the entire first set.
Loved Steve Earl too and the woman singer from Memphis was superb!

The second set started out as great as the first. Perfect renditions of Rescue-loved Butch playing with his hands…and Fruits of My Labor
After Rionn played his song which was pretty good- she sang Words- which is so beautiful!
Unfortunately she wasn’t hearing the song the way she wanted to hear it and she stopped.
I play music with an incredibly talented song writer who will also stop a song that I feel is going very well. He says it’s just not sounding the way he needs to hear it..
Many of those times-Just like last night- I felt that the song was going quite well and it does leave me as it left the band, crew and audience feeling awkward and uncomfortable-confused…
The insecurity spread like wild fire.
I feel the same way about my guitar player as I do with Lucinda. I wish they would let the song play out. Sure it may not sound exactly like they want at the moment, but songs can take on a different energy on different nights and they need to relax in the moment and let the flow continue. Instead she tensed up and stopped the flow-
I agree that she looks much more comfortable when she has a guitar in her hand- Perhaps she feels more in control of the song.. They get crippled by their insecurities- It’s really too bad and my heart goes out to Lucinda.
She is after alll my favorite and I will go see her as much as I can.
    Steve Earl was fantastic!
Deep Breaths for everyone- life will go on..

I completely agree with Jackstraw about wanting only one guitar. I enjoy the sparse, space creating that happens with one guitar player . It was cool having one play pedal steel while one played guitar, but two guitars weren’t needed- Plus I’d much rather hear Doug solo- He’s in a whole different league than Chet. But as Jackstraw said Sh!t changes and Lu seems to be really into it-
I also prefer more subtle drumming. Butch is a monster as Lu called him, but at times a bit heavy hitting for the more sensitive material.
All in all still great players-
I saw her in Albany at The Egg this March and the music was perfect- Every note and hit was purposeful and intentional- That’s what I enjoy most about that band.
Don’t at all mean to bash, just the way I like hearing the songs played-

I had a wonderful opportunity meeting Lucinda this summer in the Poconos. I planned on camping for the Mountain Laurel show, but it was pouring rain the day before. My girlfriend Darlene and I decided to get a room to beat the rain. We went to the bar for a cocktail before dinner and Lucinda was there with her band and her boyfriend Tom. They graciously befriended us. Before the night was over we had a chance to sing songs from the jukebox together( Doors, Fleetwood Mac, Springsteen) that Lucinda had chosen, chat about politics, and even do some dancing on the dance floor. As you can imagine it was quite a night. Lucinda put us on the guest list and gave us incredible seats. I was/am very grateful for this evening. She and her boys were all incredibly warm, real people. We talked about real things i.e. our familes, the state of the world etc. We also went out with Doug after the show. He is a great guy. Great pool player too! Hopefully I will get to hang with them again.
