Really looking forward to it. I am having some trouble in my life but hope to see Lucinda and the Buick Six (and her hubby) soon. All the Best. Tim Considine…www.thederelicks.com…

I’ve been cruising Half Price Books when I get the chance. It’s amazing what you can find on CD these days. Live CDs? I picked up a couple of CDs I did not know existed: Son House: “Live at the Gaslight” (about 1964) and “Howlin’ Wolf Live” (I’d guess around 1960). The Howlin” Wolf record had no info on it…some kind of import bootleg. The audio quality is good and it’s a great show. The Son House record may have been around but I had never seen it…classic (he taught R. Johnson everything he knew–it had nothing to do with a “devil” at the crossroads). Here’s one for you: King Curtis, “Live at Fillmore East” …or was it west? King does a Zeppilin tune and his own “Memphis Soul Stew”…not a bad cut on the record. It was recorded at the same time as the Aretha live record recently released on CD. For those who are not familiar with King Curtis, he was a HOT sax player who began to get noticed in the 1950s as the Coasters saxman, then went on to do sessions for folks while releasing his own music. He was murdered (robbery) in NYC in the early seventies…GREAT PLAYER!

I’ve got a few ideas off the top… As already mentioned,”Green Onions” always works–keeps things mellow but still rocks….Bob Dylan’s “Nashville Skyline Rag”?–maybe not enough energy…For a chuckle, drop the lights and do an instramental version of Prince’s “Purple Rain” then segue into a long intro/jam instrumental version of Lucinda’s “Can’t let Go”…T.C. http://www.thederelicks.com

Lafeyette, I’ve got a brother (with wife and kids) in Cincy–love that town. I have been to the club with the Gen Thompson ( The Thomson Gunner, like the Waren Zevon tune) placque out front–just accross the river in Kentucky (very cool place–big converted old haunted mansion). I’d love to head over to Cincy but I’m generally buried with stuff here in Indy during the week…Take Care…Tim C.

A CD came out a few years ago that I think may have passed by a few people. It was Jerry Lee Lewis’, “Last Man Standing”. The Killer is in top form and he has a bunch of great guests on the record–very strong bunch of tunes too…and I’ve been pulling out some old Professor Longhair CDs just to wellcome the spring after a long winter. Check him out if your unfamiliar–the Professor was a longtime New Orleons piano man. He basically wrote the book and influenced Dr. John and Fats Domino among others. Rhino Records has some compilations and Bearsville Records has a few………….. Randy Newman’s latest, “Harps and Angels” is a strong return to form for him. It had been awhile since he put out a record…great tunes…..Tim Considine/ http://www.thederelicks.com
