Here’s to hoping that ticket sales hit a robust level of activity…

I am very interested in seeing how August will unfold in terms of LWs new music, players, sound, and feel…

Yes, it does work and it’s especially interesting when considering the historical origination and designation that the cheerleader emblem holds in this forum!

Enjoy the day,

Wow, no kidding… Don Was! That’s amazing… Nothing short of awesome TomO. Perhaps the record could be mastered by Portland’s own and award-winning Bud Ludwig/Gateway Mastering. As you know, Bruce Springsteen loves to visit Gateway for many reasons including the fact that he can walk around with sunglasses and a hat without being mobbed. Plus, a visit to J’s Oyster Bar for fresh Maine seafood and Gritty’s for a pint is always fun… Perhaps a quiet one-off at One Longfellow Square or The North Star Cafe while in town for the mastering???

Sounds like a great night is in store, for sure. I am sending out positive vibes to TN in regards to the recent rain and flooding… Wouldn’t it be nice to see Kenny Vaughan backing LWs with the awesome 12-string green git that is in his collection and he used for the pre-CWOGR tour along with Jim Lauderdale?

Enjoy the evening,

David

Thanks, for the thoughts, Tom–no offense taken, simply pointing to what some musicians bring to the table and how truly important and critical they see their instruments–even down to the original copper-coiled vintage pick-ups (David Lindley is another primo example of this…He and David Crosby have been known to fight over such pick-ups). Over the years, this is something that I have noticed and learned about. Here’s a picture of Studio B along with two of David Lindley’s guitars…Studio B.jpg[/attachment:15kdngpf]David L 1.gif[/attachment:15kdngpf]David L2.gif[/attachment:15kdngpf]

Thanks, TO, for posting–I appreciate it. (yeah, from what I know of EC and conversations I have shared w/him, he would be very pissed by getting the limelight…) Glad to see that kicking the beehive got a bit more information out in terms of lyrics, players, etc. Many of us (especially those like and in the same vein as EC and his 4-string 1958 Gretsch Chet Atkins 6120 single cutaway arch-top tenor guitar that toured with the original Elvis) find the details (instruments, players, etc. Doug Pettibone is up there too, with his collection of guitars and Matchless amps…) as the baseline, which make up the essential elements and components of the source of the “sound” of a record and/or artist/recording. Audiophiles, if you will–and there’s many of us. It’s nice to see the associated cynicism in some of the posts as it illuminates and brings to light some of the unfortunate presuppositions and ignorance. Education is very important in everything that we do… Unlike some, I am not a hook-line-and-sinker kind of a guy.2010-04-20_Boston2.jpg[/attachment:38wxhlau]url-2.jpg[/attachment:38wxhlau]

Hello Tom:

Many thanks, for the information–it’s much appreciated. Val Mcallum is an interesting, straight ahead choice for a rocking studio axeman (minus the deep Americana roots). Interestingly enough, he comes from one of my favorite grill-billy bands, Jackshit, that features Pete Thomas on drums (from EC’s famous backing band, The Attractions) along with The Imposters, Davey Faragher (formely of Cracker) on bass. Sounds like it will be swampy-rocker-meets Dick Curless-tombstone every mile-type record. It will be interesting to see what Greg Leisz brings to the sessions especially in light of his recent production work with Rosie Flores and Dave Alvin let alone his ear for the classics such as The Flying Burrito Brothers along with moderns such as Wilco, Bruce Cockburn, and Paula Cole (she is an awesome performer to see “live” at the edge of a stage). Any word on touring outfits yet? With only two dates showing, are there any dates penciled in for the remainder of the summer?

Thanks, again, for the 411.

Speaking seriously for a minute, I am not so sure it’s a good thing that the facilitator/manager of this website, etc “certainly knows how to tease us fans.” I, for one, am not one of said fans rather and as I have said continuously, I would much rather a pipeline of direct and pertinent information versus the infrequent, cryptic, and often disjointed skinny that “tease(s) us fans.” An example of this is as follows: There are two dates on the books and there is virtually no information about these dates in terms of players, further direction of the tour, etc. Instead, we get the occasional fuzzy collage describing a sorted chain of phone calls and hearsay. In today’s world of technological tools and channels that enables and supports real-time video/music/streaming communication, I am not sure that I want to be among those that are proud to be “teased.” Someone mentioned in this thread: Thanks, TO for throwing us a bone–I think that says it all at this juncture…

And for further review:

“True Blood Volume 2” is released on May 25th

The album contains a newly recorded Lucinda Williams song, “Kiss Like Your Kiss” which features a harmony vocal from Elvis Costello.

Speaking to minister of information, The Right Reverend Jimmy Quickly, Costello said:

“This is one of the best vocal performances of Lucinda’s recording career. I just tried to stay out of the way and add a little harmony where absolutely needed. It didn’t need a thing more. The show may make you want to bite someone on the neck but this song is going to make you wish you were loved or in love with someone enough so you could sing it to them.”

A few ideas re: the NEW RECORD UPDATE post:

1) Any information regarding the musicians and/or instruments that will be appearing and playing on the album?

2) Any information regarding other guest appearances that will be happening on the album?

3) Any ideas/additional information about the tour dates that are showing in terms of the new record and direction of the tour as summer is right around the corner?

Thanks, for the information and update although I found it a bit cryptic. Perhaps you could share a bit more 411 in terms of what is happening this late spring into summer, yes? David

What a terrific image: Wonderful music in the lonely desert…. Yeah, Jim Lauderdale was terrific helping to lead Elvis Costello and the Sugarcanes a few weeks ago in Boston (and with LWs in Somerville back in the early CWOGR tour w/Kenny Vaughn), all without drums making it that much more authentic and difficult to play–would’ve loved to see him with Doug P and Dusty W along with a steel. Nice. It makes me think about switching up the current players for LWs…

Statistics are like a bikini–You can hide or show whatever you like. This small pool of stats is the strongest poll that has been produced to-date and can be spun in many different directions. What’s more, it is fairly clear in terms of what type of traffic this web forum has seen in the past few months. My poll was simply written with clear questions and issues that I have been raising here. No need to “defend” the results in either direction. The results are what they are; interesting nonetheless.

OK, so let’s interpret the stats.

100% of posters want streaming music.
50% of posters would like to see Gurf play w/LWs and see someone else besides Buick 6 opening and regular website updates.
75% want to see new photographs, streaming videos, fan-only tickets and a regular squeezebox player.
And finally, 25% feel that Sharp Cutting Wings is their favorite song and would like to see LWs play with Bo and Greg,

It is important to remember that the majority of people visiting this site are LWs fanatics, which slants/skews the data set. However, I find that these are interesting results especially given the fact that fans are voting versus a more representative population sample.
