It’s the economy (stupid). Though the ticket prices in Northampton have only been raised minimally since her last appearance, it is still on a weeknight, and most of the folks going may 1. have kids(with babysitter rates added) or 2. don’t want to stay out too late when having to work the next day. Another reason is that Northampton music fans are notoriously late in getting their tickets, though if you look at Jeff Tweedy’s pre-sale numbers(for the Calvin), most are gone already before being on-sale to the ‘general public’ tomorrow(30th). So, in summing up…….who the F knows!

Although I am no Bonnaroo curator, it now seems like the currency of this tour has changed just a bit..

Well, in the world of tenure, touring guitartists, and LWs, DPs 8-year stint is indeed impressive not to mention the depth and Louisana Swamp-a-billy that his sound brought to so many of her recordings. He and his Matchless amps will be missed. I wonder if this means that a different incarnation of Buick 6 will hit the road or will the tour morph in some other direction?

Good question: It certainly appers to be related to ticket sales that are reflected in parts of the New England market as well. Not an error–there were/are two dates originally booked at the 930….

Well done, young Grasshoppers. Well done, indeed. Yes, bombastic is a word that is powerful and you are wise to capture its essence and presence. Now, use the force, young Luke, and look around you. All things are not as they sound. As once was spoken, be careful when one’s BS-meter goes awry. Bee especially careful for all things that look sweet are not honey-sweet. Be(e) cautious of the man who protest to much… (notice no smiley-faces inserted here)

On another note and since you are checking in TO, can you share any background in terms of why Buick 6 is opening for LWs on the upcoming tour?

Hey TO: I appreciate your timely and thoughtful response. Actually and allowing me to speak for myself, I find it easy to compliment when necessary (as evidenced by my hand-clap for the recent M. Ward duet)–but thanks for thinking that I might find it difficult nonetheless. That aside and speaking more directly, microphones, vocal booths, and people don’t make a recording rather it appears more of a vibe that makes the final record–and it seems that LWs/ M. Ward et al hit one over the fence. Can you congratulate them for that or no? In regards to LH, every record can’t be a complete winner regardless of what your team thinks. More than one “critic” has said the same thing, TO, and that’s OK. Really, no reason to be harsh or bombastic here. Cheerleading is OK as along as one claims to be a cheerleader. I am not. I am just a longtime fan who enjoyed the same early shows in MPLS/midwest many years ago (along with many others)… Actually and in closing, who knows when the next terrific recording or performance is going to happen or occur… Maybe that day with the same peeps and equipment caught a special moment…stranger things have happened! A blind squirrel can’t find a nut unless (s)he’s searching for one (or one is not going to catch a fish unless they get their line wet)…

Frankly speaking and from my perspective, the steeped emotionality and voice that LWs brings to this song is exactly the essence/backplane that is lacking in Little Honey… Hats off to M. Ward, the producer(s), the engineer(s), and especially Lucinda Williams who bring Oh Lonesome Me and Hold Time to our ears…

Yeah, Chuck Prophet’s stuff is terrific–thanks, for the reminder–I gotta go and hear some as I haven’t visited those tunes for a while… Thanks, again…

Interesting artist is M. Ward. He actually helped Norah Jones get her start–more accurately would be the fact that they helped each other get started. Cutting across all genres, Matt is respected by many musicians including Jim James, Neko Case, Lucinda Williams, and Conor Oberst to name only a few. An accomplished guitar player spliced directly from the DNA of Juana Molina and Keller Williams, his playing skills are only overshadowed by his abilities to write intense song-stories that quickly take the listener to realistic landscapes of personal reflections and psychodynamic realities (Chinese Translation, Rollercoaster). Such stories are delivered to the listener on the wings of haunting melodies that are akin to Brett Sparks (The Handsome Family) sonic fabrics…

Hmmm…It does sound familiar and I feel for such folks. You know, those individuals who go to forums and engage with complete strangers on a strangely personal level–where most have made-up names/personalities–and go about the business of engaging in fantasy around people who they will never meet. Wierd, really. The post on “sexy” lyrics here is especially enlightening in this regard (tonyg’s recent posting in terms of LWs more simplistic/suggestive lyrics: “Re: 5 lucinda’s most sexiest songs by tonyg on Wed Jan 07, 2009 11:55 pm Easy fella. I put a finger in each ear when she gets to the dirty parts in her songs.tonyg”).

That aside, it is a newer phenomena–this roleplaying and it’s causing a lot of trouble for adults and children alike (real-time in Facebook and Myspace–let alone World of Warcraft, dating sites, etc). More challenging is the idea of engaging in philosophical and intellectual discussion around artistry and diversity, which is what trolls (if that’s what you want to label “them”) do not want–and it appears that there are several trolls (following the listed definition) in here for sure (and in most “fan-based” forums)–and they like to band together, don’t they? Trolls rarely strike alone in this/a forum, rather they band together and call names, try to ostracize, swear, harass, etc for new opinions and challenging thoughts they do not like–they seem to want to stay in defense mode. It reminds me of the old, now new, slang term “circlejerk.” “Trolls” like to engage in this type of behavior, as well. Thankfully, this has morphed into a term that is not verbatium but refreshingly updated. It would be consistent with troll-like behaviors to resist progress while staying in their “woods” (see the movie, Shrek, for some humorous albeit apropos antidotes and metaphors):

“Circlejerk also refers to a pompous, self-congratulatory discussion where little to no progress is made.”
    1. “I just walked in on a circlejerk yesterday; it was terrible!”
    2. “Did you catch that board meeting? Man, what a circlejerk!”

Can participants remember to keep it about the music, reviews, setlists, lyrics, shows, and albums? Diversity is king and an enemy for trolls and circlejerks alike…

    Steve:

Am I not a regular in here too? Why push me out of said group? Again, who is the “we” that you speak of? Isn’t everyone welcome to such a forum or are there self-imposed individuals who censor postings that are out of colour? What makes a “regular” in your own mind?…

    Thinking (outside of the group),
