Great guitars and guitar work… Voice lacking a bit – wishing Side of the Road was out there –
DavidinMaineParticipantUmmm… Just went and saw Bo Ramsey and Pieta Brown open up for Amos Lee. And, guess what happened? The crowd was thin and very, very chatty. It’s a reality thing. If people aren’t going to attend to two very well-known singer-songwriters like this, how in the world are they going to attend to an unknown like Blake? It’s simply setting him up to fail…
DavidinMaineParticipantOops! Thanks, M-D, for pointing that out… You are indeed correct. I appreciate you pointing that out. I corrected my post.
David
DavidinMaineParticipantHey Maxdriver. As you can see and unfortunately, sometimes if one posts a review/comment that does not reflect 100% positive on LWs and her music, you will definitely feel the heat. It’s unfortunate, for sure. It’s not about how many concerts you have seen (who wants to see or says they’ve seen Jerry and the boys “100 times” anyway?). I appreciate your honest and candid review. After all, not everyone is a cheerleader here on this forum (as you can see, there are a lot of cheerleaders in here, right?)… Candid and heartfelt is what it is all about in my world.
DavidinMaineParticipantSuper setlists the last two nights… As Don Walser used to say, “there’s some real ‘stickers’ in there!” Best that LWs ever been singing? Hmmm… That’s some dangerous language. Although I have enjoyed hearing Lucinda’s voice evolve, I, for one lean towards her earlier, leaner less-gravel/Janis Joplin sound. Here’s a terrific example complete with Gurf Morlix playing his vintage Budweiser Rickenbacker slide-guitar (and buyin’ tomatoes for a casserole…). Just a cold chill, just-a-lump in my throat, just hot blood. Boy-howdy, do I remember watching the patented back-and-forth LWs hip-sway and head-bob back in the day (and sweet acoustic simple play). What a great work-up; just LWs and Gurf. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wrVY3ynMlI8
DavidinMaineParticipantzzzzzz… New news?… zzzzzzz…
DavidinMaineParticipantYou are more than welcome, Tim. Always good to see your posts. The last time I was at The Other Side this summer, I had a 14oz tulip of Avery’s hop-bomb (double American IPA) “Maharaja” that was nothing short of spectacular on-tap. Beer Advocate review here: http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/30/22352 It really is a terrific representation of beers in this genre. The Other Side is only about a half-mile from the HOB and well-worth the jaunt if one is searching for a pint of the good stuff. Portsmouth Brewing Company is the stop while in Portsmouth–just about 6-blocks from the Music Hall, which is one of my favorite rooms around. It was originally built as a music hall (great sound and vibe) and they have redone the entry/bar into a very cool space… Nice to see your posts and thanks, for doing so! David
DavidinMaineParticipantHey Tim:
There’s a great place just a few blocks down on Newbury Street called The Other Side, which has one of the best offerings of fresh micros in Boston… The Cask is a fun place–you may want to try The Other Side if you want a super-fresh pint of some of America’s best!
DavidinMaineParticipantHere we go again… Big ticket prices emerging again…
DavidinMaineParticipantYou are exactly correct, L and thanks, for the correction. Either way, I am simply concerned by the message in terms of a high ticket price (especially in light of a “complimentary bottle of Jack, Absolut, or French Beer”–seems like way too much pricing wiggle room and against those who are buying pairs or singles, etc) and with it not selling out rather quickly, an interesting outcome. The last tour was marred by similar ticket sales and mixed pricing strategies so we’ll just have to wait and see, right? Also, I will be surprised when any substantial updates are shared on this site. Why “talk” about what’s in the can, why not just post the results like so many other musicians do (I know, I have said this before!)? It does not have to be that difficult. The days stretch into months and the months, years…
DavidinMaineParticipantHere’s to wishing and hoping… With only 100 tickets available one would hope that the Vroom would be “heading for a sell out.” As for the solo and pending tour, I am holding on to a wish-and-a-prayer. In light of where things left off from the last tour along with the continuous inactivity in regards to new sounds/vids/stuff/ticket sales being availed on this site, concerns continue to be mounted as it relates to delivery of LWs sounds and music…
DavidinMaineParticipantSeveral tickets still available… Not a good thing and hopefully the ticket price and lackluster sales will not be heading towards a future trend…
DavidinMaineParticipantOh no, say it isn’t so! Another reincarnation of Buick 6, yikes! Ugh… There are so many options and so many different ways to back LWs. And the data suggested that ticket sales and Buick 6 didn’t add up… The silence in here regarding the backing band is deafening, really. I know it doesn’t have to be that difficult and/or complicated. Let’s get it on! Kinda like this: Neil’s latest project w/Daniel Lanois–Le Noise: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wU5B53b9ntQ Come on, let’s make something happen aside from white noise… Collaboration, baby, collaboration.
p.s. Not a good sign that tickets for the Vroom New Years show are still available…
DavidinMaineParticipantYeah, I saw LWs I think it was 2003 in Concord along with around 2000 at the Somerville Theater in Somverville, MA with JIm Lauderdale and Kenny Vaughn… These are nice venues as well. From the layout of the emerging tour, we could even be given a Friday or Saturday night gig… I wonder if Kenny would be open to tour with LWs…? I still say bring back Bo or Gurf for a run. I know, how about Slaid Cleaves or even better Tim Easton! Tim is one of the best guitar players in this genre that I have ever seen… And his songwriting prowess is remarkable as well… He is always happy to do a LWs cover during his shows.
DavidinMaineParticipantThanks, for the info, TO. So there are several days in between Boston and DC–what direction are you thinking? Perhaps The Music Hall in Portsmouth (a terrific historical music room and a fun town to grab a pint/red wine). Or how about a really small room in Portland like One Longfellow Square for a one-off type of show (Paula Poundstone has done some shows there along with a host of others that are the same caliber). Saw Greg Brown/Bo Ramsey there and Rupa and the April Fishes along with many other terrific shows… The State Theater is another option. Any idea of tour players yet? How about touring partners in terms of double-billing–any thoughts? Thanks, again, for the info and I hope tickets are moving for the Vroom show coming up on the 31st…
