I picked up Little Honey as soon as Borders opened and have been listening to it all day and night. It is a great album that has a little bit of everything but most of all it shows the range of Lu’s voice – from hard core rocker on songs like Honey Bee and Real Love to a beautiful love song voice on Plan to Marry. Jailhouse Tears with Elvis Costello is great and a lot of fun to listen to, a song I bet she had a lot of fun making. I loved West for the songs it offered and the look into Lu’s psyche and I love this album for the way it rocks but also shows so many sides of Lu, probably more then any of her other albums. If you don’t have it yet go and get it , you won’t be sorry! 😀
cyclist911ParticipantMary I agree with you 100% and though I respect the person who compared the Sac concert to Bob Dylan’s concert I completely disagree with him. To many people want to hear the same old songs every time they see a musician play and don’t allow themselves to really listen to the new songs. The 7 songs she did from her new album were all different and included funny songs like Jailhouse Tears and some very serious ones and a lot that were in between, in other words another great Lucinda “Album”. I saw Lucinda open for John Mellencamp in Berkeley about 1 month ago and her set was almost entirely different than that show and that is exactly what I was hoping for. She opened the show saying that some of her fans followed her up to Sac from LA and she wanted to make sure she didn’t do the same show and when I heard that I was stoked because I really wanted to hear some songs from the new album. Going to live shows allows fans to hear songs that no one else will hear until the album comes out and that is one of the things that make live shows so great. I know I am one sided when it comes to Lucinda but I believe this line of thought is the same for all musicians. I will be at the Fillmore show in November and whatever songs she plays will be fine with me and they are all great!
cyclist911ParticipantI saw Lucinda last night at the Greek in Berkeley and she was awesome as usual. She was really in a good mood and seemed to have so much fun with the band. Especially when Andy York from Mellencamp’s band came out and played with her. She played 4 new songs from her upcoming album and they we all great. At first the Berkeley crowd was walking around and still getting their seats but after about 3 to 4 songs it was like they finally understood what a treat they were getting and they really got into her performance and she received a full-house applause by the end of the set. I prefer seeing her in smaller settings though the Greek is a great venue. I will be seeing her on her own on 4 Sept in Sacramento at the Crest and can’t wait!
cyclist911ParticipantI was lucky in reading about the concert in the Sacramento Bee one night. I called immediately and I have tickets on the fourth row center. I am also seeing Lucinda tomorrow night in Berkeley as she opens for Mellencamp. I am going mainly for her of course and hope the crowd can appreciate how great she is. I saw her last year at the Catalyst in Santa Cruz and was probably the best concert I have been too. Saw her the next day in Oakland and she was great there too but the Catalyst concert was so intimate and Lucinda..Pettibone is fantastic too!
