welcome to the site, 2 Kool.
that’s a great question we’ve probably all had. personally, i got an image of Lucinda sitting around writing the song with her front door open, a junebug crawling around on the screen door with a hurricane on the way, storm visible on the horizon. i guess it struck her as kool at the time?
    what’s your take?

she did some gigs with John Fogerty a couple years ago which i was tempted to catch in santa barbara, but a little too pricey for my blood.

indeed, a great performance and a wonderful production. Lucinda appears very relaxed, unlike almost every other video i’ve seen of her. can’t this be released officially? i agree, why can’t ACL do things this nicely?

    Artist: Shaver Billy Joe
Song: Georgia On A Fast Train

    Verse 1:
    A D
On a rainy, windy morning that’s the day that i was born on
    A E
In the old sharecroppers one room country shack
    A D
They say my mammy left me,same day that she had me
    A E A
Said she hit the road and never once looked back

    Verse 2:
    A D
And i just thought i’d mention, my Grandma’s old age pension
    A E
Is the reason why i’m standing here today
    A D
I got all my country learning, living and a churning
    A E A
Pickin’ cotton, rasin’ hell, and bailin’ hay

    Chorus:
    A D
I’ve been to Georgia on a fast train honey
    A E
    I wudn’t born no yesterday
    A D
Got a good Christian raisin’ and an eighth grade education
    A E A
Ain’t no need in y’all a treatin’ me this way

    Van Morrison
    ยป Wonderful Remark

How can you stand the silence
That pervades when we all cry?
How can you watch the violence
    That erupts before your eyes?
How can you tell us something
Just to keep us hangin’ on?
Something that just don’t mean nothing
When we see it you are gone
    Clinging to some other rainbow
While we’re standing, waiting in the cold
Telling us the same old story
    Knowing time is growing old.
    That was a Wonderful Remark
I had my eyes closed in the dark
    I sighed a million sighs
I told a million lies – to myself – to myself

Then take me disappearin’ through the smoke rings of my mind,
Down the foggy ruins of time, far past the frozen leaves,
The haunted, frightened trees, out to the windy beach,
Far from the twisted reach of crazy sorrow.
Yes, to dance beneath the diamond sky with one hand waving free,
Silhouetted by the sea, circled by the circus sands,
With all memory and fate driven deep beneath the waves,
Let me forget about today until tomorrow.

thanks for the info about the Shadows. i just got a triple shot of Apache over at youtube. great stuff, and that lead player, John (someone was lamenting about him in one of the comments, maybe he’s no longer with us?) looks kinda like Buddy Holly, or vice versa…
they rock! are they in the british HOF? if there is one, i wonder…

oh yeah, and the Buckaroos at Carnegie hall is an awesome record, too.
