thanks gtmann. here’s the most recent list:
’65 Fender Strat
’69 Danelectro Baritone
’67 Kustom 200a
’60 Gibson 330
’58 Harmony H44
Gibson Redtop
GVGC ’53 TelecasterAmps are a ’64 Deluxe Reverb and a Victoria Golden Melody
blakeParticipantall really good points (especially “real love”, that’s gotta go in!!)
in my opinion, it’s sorta neglecting the appetizing quality of the customary opener set length (45 min +/-). having just enjoyed an amos set (or any artist play) for an 1.5 hours, another 2.5 hours of anybody’s music just seems like auditory overload…
… 2 entrees at my favorite restaurant is still something i walk away from regretting. but i suppose every ape has his appetite.
really just playing devil’s advocate. i’d love to be playing for 2.5 hours every night!
NYC, your point about disappointing hard working people is spot on. her feelings on the few shows with deadlines echo your sentiments, exactly. but in fact, there’s another side to why the curfews are there; unions. people who work at the venues get there before we do, working there all day and night, and in order to ensure some sense of sanity to their day, it helps to have a dependable light at the end of the tunnel.
all that said, tonight i’ve petitioned the group to forgo the usual “exit the stage before potential encore” bit. if the crowd at these gigs is receptive thru the show, maybe we’ll just plow right through. night buy us an extra 5-10 min. everyone i’ve presented it to seems into the idea, so we’ll see how it goes…
blakeParticipant…oops! Re-read as 16 songs! Still looking at just under an hour and a half onstage. Discuss!!
blakeParticipantGonna jump in here…
Since when is 17 songs a “short set”? By crude calculations thats about 85 min onstage…
July 2, 2011 at 5:22 pm in reply to: Interview For Fretboard Journal, Discussing Lucinda Gig etc #47540blakeParticipantI believe, at one point, a wiki page was attempted but discarded? Not exactly sure how the whole thing works, but the remains of that article can be found here:

good luck!
blakeParticipantyes! a friend of mine from highschoool made the film. he’s been working on it for years and had the idea to use the song early on. happy to see it come to!
simon dawes was a band i was in thru highschool. pretty typical adolescent drill; lots of experimenting, coming up through the paces, thinking everything is more important than it is. that explains the earnestness of “Execution Song”, as it goes.
good find lwj
blakeParticipantCan’t decide whether to divulge the identity of “Come On Baby” or let it be a surprise when we finally do it… ❓
blakeParticipantPunchdrunk, while your observation is correct in regards to the “Evening With…” (no opener) shows, many of our sets actually do mix the dynamics around.
Personally, I’ve noticed the theater crowds being more engaged with the mellower tunes up front/hotter tunes closing out style of setlist, while standing crowds and open air venues like the varity.blakeParticipantLearning How To Live was a bit more like Learning How To Play tonight; we all needed to refresh our memories on that one. When it comes around again, I’ll be ready!!
blakeParticipantThanks for all the lovely feedback guys…
Here’s what’s in the boat:
’65 Strat
’69 Baritone
’67 Kustom 200a
’60 330
’88 Goldtop (1/2 step down)
’04 Redtop (personal gift from Dicky Betts)Some nights the set has me switching all over the place, and I’m constantly experimenting with different guitars/different songs. Slide has been mostly on the Stratocaster, some earlier shows with the 330.
Amps have been a ’64 Deluxe Reverb and a ’57 Deluxe, and we just got a Victoria 20112 that sounds killlller. Might leave the ’57 at home next run.
blakeParticipant“Rarity” was played at soundcheck… We’ll see where it goes!
blakeParticipantGreat suggestions guys! Got me digging…
Pulled a few out from West tonight, an album that doesn’t get enough attention from us IMHO. Also did my first duet w Lu, Side Of The Road. Awesome experience, but I may have had the wrong guitar for it! Next time I may try something a bit different.I’d love to work out Like A Rose, kind of a drop dead gorgeous tune as it is…
Gonna suggest we try Learning How To Live too
blakeParticipantThanks guys, glad you enjoyed it. Also wanted to thank Cindy for the awesome Welcome signs! Thanks Cindy!
blakeParticipantbest i can do is give you the chords… believe it or not, the entire song is just:
{6/8 time, key of Bb}
Bb / (Bb) / Cm / Eb /hope this helps, slay that wedding <3 <3 <3
blakeParticipantOh, trust me, the Val quotient will be missed here too. 😥 Thanks guys! Lookin fwd to it
