badjugglerParticipantAn amazing evening last night. Buick 6 never sounded better. I was kinda hoping they would break into a cover of Nick Lowe’s “I Knew The Bride When She Used To Rock And Roll”, but then you can’t have everything, can you? I really hope Lucinda and Tom consider the Twin Cities their second home, because we love to have them hanging around up here.
badjugglerParticipantIs there an opening act tonight? Or Buick 6 again? Anybody know?
badjugglerParticipantI see on Carrie’s website she has rescheduled her solo gig here in Minnie for April 8. I need a rest from this run of good music rolling through here…
badjugglerParticipantThanks for the post! Carrie was scheduled to play at the Varsity Theater here in Minneapolis the same night and I was bummed I would miss her since I already had Lu tickets. Very excited she will be here Wednesday!
badjugglerParticipantSteve
Thank you for bringing up the Neil Young “Greendale” comparison. The first time I saw Ms. Lucinda in concert was opening for Neil’s Greendale here in Minneapolis. Mr. Young is one of the few artists I see whenever they come through town simply because with Neil you never know what you are going to get. He has pissed me off (45 minute set in Chicago 25 years ago) but the excitement of anticipation is amazing. So I like being surprised and seeing a different show each time. And part of the excitement of a Lu concert is the emotional aspect of how she feels and presents herself and her songs.
And to carry the chicken analogy one step further, if the chicken wing guy had actually RAISED the chickens (like Lu has raised her songs) he would feel more of an emotional attachment and the whole chicken experience for him would be much more personal and emotional.

badjugglerParticipantI guess I had better be to First Ave on time tonight… Was just there last night for Matthew Sweet. Check him out if you get a chance (sings backup on Lu’s new CD). Played a lot of his old Girlfriend and Altered Beast gems. The Bridges open for him and were very good.
badjugglerParticipantGreat post, stellablueee. You hit the nail on the head. Racism is alive and well in the Good Ole’ USA.
badjugglerParticipantI heard a song
Come down from the ceiling
Got a feeling from a long long time beforeI hear a voice
Sing smile on your brother
My mother and her mother fight about the warOh my, I feel a hand on my heart
Reachin’ over so many years to me
Oh my, I hear a voice in my head
Singin peace is more than a dream– “Hand On My Heart” by Dan Wilson
badjugglerParticipantI am a little late to the Carrie party, but I see she is coming to Minneapolis in November and she has been writing with two of our proud native sons: Dan Wilson and Gary Louris. Will have to check her out.
badjugglerParticipant[quote=”There most likely will be two Minneapolis shows at First Ave, the first on Sept 23 the plan is to play Little Honey from top to bottom for the set and to webcast the audio. The second show on Nov. 5 will be the first one back after a short break.[/quote]
I was just going to ask about that. I guess I will have to go to two shows in two weeks. Bah, humbug! This must be one of the small perks to live in a city with a song named after it! 🙂
badjugglerParticipantVERY excited about the new “album”. Liked all of the new songs (and it usually takes me a while to accept the new). Nice mixture of slow and rockers. And just enough twang….
badjugglerParticipantI must concur that it was a fabulous show last night. The chemistry between Lu and the band seemed just a tad tentative until Right On Time. That really jumpstarted the energy and the rest of the show was amazing. Good chatter between songs. I was especially touched by the story of Lu spending Christmas Day alone in a Minneapolis hotel room while recording Essence here. That is what I love about her – the intensely personal feel of each song. When asked to describe her I call her the “female Neil Young” which I hope she takes as the compliment it is meant to be.
Buick 6 was a real treat. I don’t want to ruin any surprises, but their final two songs were a real pleasure and a rare treat.
Glad some of you out-of-towners could come and see the great venue we have at the MN Zoo. Perfect size for a show like this…
