backstreetsParticipant
Great report stoger! Hopefully we can touch base with you and vmorris at RR tomorrow night.
backstreetsParticipantInstead of plugging Amazon, I should have mentioned that the CDs are available through Lu’s store…
backstreetsParticipantWow, all the up to a “C-“! I’m better than I realized😀
The Petty CD is available via Amazon. I listened to the Dylan set the other night, which prompted a re-listen of the other two sets.
I thought there was a little distortion during “Not Dark Yet”, though I haven’t confirmed by listening on a different CD player. Other than that, another great set.backstreetsParticipantJust listened to this CD again tonight. What a great heartfelt tribute to Tom Petty Stolen Moments is! (Sorry Stoger, I’m sure I broke at least a dozen grammar rules with that statement). Sure would be great to hear this one at Red Rocks…
backstreetsParticipantHey Roger! Knuckleheads is a cool venue, except for the fact that it’s in the middle of nowhere, though “supposedly” they do have a shuttle. I’ve seen Ray Wylie Hubbard there a couple of times as well as Steve Earle. The main venue is right next to the railroad tracks, which can lead to interesting/opportunistic moments when the train rolls by, which it will at least a couple of times during the show. They’ve got a decent-sized open area next to the stage, as well as long picnic tables for seated viewing. They’ve also got a new (actually old) barn in the event of rain.
Not sure of our exact plans, but Mrs. backstreets and I will be there, and could certainly help with travel to/from the venue. Also, in response to a previous post, we’ll be doing Iowa City and West Lafayette. My wife’s work schedule is kinda crazy right now, but we’re hoping for a stay in Utica, IL on Friday night (unless Lu’s playing somewhere Friday night – can’t imagine that since it would make 5 nights in a row) at a bed and breakfast just around the corner from the August Hill winery where they usually have live music on the weekends.
backstreetsParticipantAny other possible Midwest dates? KC, Omaha, anywhere in Kansas!?
backstreetsParticipantThanks to Tom O. for scheduling a show in my home town! It’ll still be road trip weekend, as Mrs. backstreets an I will be at the Minneapolis and Madison shows.
Password for both Des Moines and Minneapolis is Highway20.
backstreetsParticipantAny word on pre-sale passwords?
backstreetsParticipanttonyg, thanks for posting. Lu and the band covering “When Doves Cry” sounds particularly intriguing. Guess I’ll have to live vicariously through those able to make the West Coast shows (and hopefully YouTube).
Also excited about the possibility of a new album this year. IMHO, Lu is writing as good as ever. Even two years after its release, “Down Where the Spirit…” is my favorite Lu album (still listen to it at least every couple of weeks), followed by the S/T album.
It’s kind of funny, but a couple of days ago, all of these concepts (covers, new stuff, old stuff) kind of came together. I didn’t have time to listen to a full album, so I was just picking out a few songs here and there: The Pretender, Side of the Road, Don’t Close the Door on Love, and Blessed.
backstreetsParticipantHad a great time at the shows this week. Had Standing GA at all four shows (I have a really difficult time sitting during a Lu and band show), with thanks to West Words for offering up tickets to the two shows I previously didn’t have tickets for! Also had some great conversations with fans of Lu’s music who were attending their first show. The fact 54 different songs were played, after a several months break, speaks to the cohesiveness of Lu and the band.
As Mrs. backstreets and I were walking from the L station back to our hotel in downtown Chicago at 3 a.m. after the NYE show (actually kind of a fun/interesting ride on the L with the partiers), we agreed that it was the best NYE that we had ever had! Met stoger and West Words for dinner before the show, and got in line an hour before doors opened (thankfully in an indoor hallway – though the weather wasn’t bad for late December in the upper Midwest) and had prime spots for the show. As usual, Buick 6 put on a great opening set!
It was evident from the get go, that Lu and the band and crew were in a great mood! Those Three Days is one of my favorites, but the party definitely seemed to start with Steal Your Love. I thought the aforementioned 5 minute countdown/break (and Butch’s deadpan ‘MC”ing) fit in perfectly with the looseness of the night, followed by a great version of Midnight Hour. Definitely got 2017 off to a rockin’ start!
backstreetsParticipantI meant to add that, despite the coughing during Blessed last night, that Lu’s voice sounded great the last few nights!
backstreetsParticipantstoger, as always, you nailed the set list! It’s amazing that I always have to compare my scribbled list to your memory!
backstreetsParticipantSorry for your misfortune. I am interested in the 12/29 and 12/30 tickets. Sent you a pm.
backstreetsParticipantLooks like tickets are now available for 12/28, after having been unavailable for a few weeks after the initial on sale. Hoping the same happens for 12/29 and 30 over the next few days.
backstreetsParticipantI was able to snag a couple of GAs for NYE from evanstonspace.com earlier today – looks like tix still available now.
Still looking for 1 ticket each for the 12/29 and 12/30 shows.
