Mine was July 22, 2003. I know you think I must be an OG and maybe date back to an early show in a shotgun shack but I am a latecomer comparatively speaking. I had tickets to see Neil Young at the Greek Theater and was told by one of my work pals that the opener, Lucinda Williams, was awesome. A fresh copy of World Without Tears was pressed into my hand. By the time of the show I was pumped and me and my pals were there early to experience the opener. It was a very warm summer evening and Lu came out with a 4 piece, the famed Love Band. Maybe the seats were 25% full. I had my feet up on the seat in front of me. Lu proceeded to crush it and by the end I was on my feet (not always an easy task) and cheering loudly. Within a week I had purchased all her CDs.

Little known fact: Neil performed his Greendale show that night which opens with a young boy skipping across the stage and throwing a newspaper at the feet of Ben Keith who was playing Grandpa. The boy, I later discovered, was Doug’s son Ryan who has grown into a fine young man and photographer in NYC. So there.

    Good story, Tony.
First time I saw Lu, I believe, was Aug 8, 1996 at one of the Summer Nights at the Pier shows on the Seattle waterfront. Kind of a rough patch for me, newly single and going to many shows, including every one I could catch at this unfortunately long gone, spectacular venue. I say I believe this was my first Lu show, but it’s possible I saw her before as she played the Pier several times during that era and my memory is a little.. fuzzy :). But this show left an impression that stuck.

Can’t travel to as many shows as I’d like, but really looking forward to her Northwest gigs coming up in June.
Summertime, Lucinda outdoor shows in the Northwest, .. still nothing better 😉

At the Iron Horse in Northampton, around right after the Rough Trade album came out. Lu played with Gurf, and I think the price was $8.50 a ticket. Fell in love with her right then and have been seeing her in Northampton and other New England locations for over thirty years now.

Mine too was supporting Neil’s Greendale Tour at a shed near Seattle and Tacoma. Lucinda and band were molten hot. I think my favorite show was on NYE 10-11 at the Viper Room…. with Doug and Val in her combo. Oh, the Missoula show in ‘15 was in a cool venue.
I look forward to the PDX, SEA, and YVR dates.

The Viper Room was a night to remember. The crowd spilling out onto Sunset Blvd after the show around 2:15 am was fun.

My first show was highly anticipated. She opened for Mellencamp at Summerfest in Milwaukee, summer of 2008. I saw her another 2 or 3 times that tour.

I was turned onto LU after JM covered “Lafayette” on his 2003 “Trouble No More” album. That year she played this really cool multi day music festival in Cincinnati, Tall Stacks. I unfortunately couldn’t make it.

I listened to Lu rather obsessively starting around 2000, but it must have been the Essence tour, when Anne McCue was opening, that I first saw her live. I went to shows in Seattle, New Orleans, and Salt Lake City in quick succession on that tour and have been hooked ever since. Lu was the first artist that I traveled to see and also the first artist that I would happily see by myself. Time, space, and company were no barriers. Lu was the first (and only) artist whose lyrics made me openly weep during a show.

Well I am latecomer . My first show was at the Greek Theater August 18th, 2009 when she opened for Elvis Costello. I came to see Elvis but left a complete fanatic for Lucinda. That week I pretty much bought all of her discs and have been on board ever since. It wasn’t until 2017 when again in L.A. that I got to see her again, what a treat !!!!

Man, i’m really a late comer. My cuz gave me a copy of car wheels around 2015. That was it, i was hooked. My first show was Jan 2015. It is a small venue in Orlando. She did not disappoint. It was one of those shows and she and buick 6 were on fire. She did 2 encores and played 25 songs. She was touring the Spirit meets the bone album. Its funny, because, prior to seeing her, i dug deep and found a few boots from shows that she did, I was looking forward to seeing Pettibone. I was a little disappointed that he wasn’t part of the band. Stuart mathis was the guitar player that night. He’s blown me away every time. I’ve seen Lu 6 times now. I get it : )
