There was so much WWT on Live at Fillmore, anyone want to chime in on the live recordings in NYC/CA on some differences?

This may or may not help, but I think the “El Rey” show seems more organic and flows MUCH better than the Fillmore. I felt the Fillmore seemed forced in places.
The sound quality goes to the Fillmore, but the stories and Lucinda’s interaction with the audience makes for a more interesting listen on the El Rey show.
I don’t have the NYC show yet so I can not compare that one. Other people may disagree but I think these discs capture the Lucinda concert experience much better than the Fillmore album.

For one thing, Live At The Fillmore was a compilation of three different shows, while the El Rey was from one night. I think the band is quite a bit better on the Fillmore record, while Lucinda’s voice sounded tired at times. (She has said this herself in the past). She said the reason she released it as is, was because of the great performances of the band.

The post about WWT material on the Fillmore record reminded me of the 2003 Soundstage broadcast.

Originally shot in HDTV and broadcast on PBS, the 45 minute segment on Lucinda Williams featured: Ventura, WWT, Essence, Bleeding Fingers, Joy, Over Time and Righteously. PBS usually sells DVD of Soundstage broadcasts but this one is not on their website (pbs.org). Does anyone have a copy of this or know how to get it?

It seems like this was the first tour I remember seeing Doug Pettibone playing with Lucinda and he just nailed it. His guitar is the perfect compliment to her voice and rhythm guitar.

The “Live for Austin TX” DVD (from Austin City Limits) is another great performance from 1998 and you can get that one on Amazon.

Are there any other Live Concert DVD out there?

I think I have that on DVD. If only I knew where to look for it in this chaos surrounding me…
