Boston show tonight. Who is in the touring band? Same players as on Blessed (sans Elvis of course)? What happened to Doug Pettibone?
March 9, 2011 at 2:23 pm #45900LeftyParticipantDoug has left the building
Val McCallum on guitar
David Sutton on bass
Butch Norton on drums/percussion
You won’t be disappointedMarch 9, 2011 at 6:13 pm #45901RainydaymanParticipantNo keyboard player?
No second guitarist (well, other than Lu)?
And, what happened to Chet Lyster?
thanks
March 9, 2011 at 6:17 pm #45902tntracyParticipantChet is touring with The Eels currently, I believe…
Also note: Starting with the Atlanta date on April 29th, new guitarist Blake Mills will be replacing Val McCallum…

March 9, 2011 at 6:24 pm #45903gmfeldParticipantChanging guitarists in the middle of a tour? That’s a little unusual.
March 9, 2011 at 6:28 pm #45904RainydaymanParticipantThanks Tom. Chet doubled as a keyboardist, as you know, and I hear a lot of keyboard on “Blessed” so I was hoping they’d tour with someone to replace Chet. Oh well….I’m sure it will be great.
March 9, 2011 at 6:41 pm #45905tntracyParticipantYeah, RDM, there are several instruments I miss w/ the current touring line-up; most notably, pedal steel. Also, keyboards would be great, and I would like to see / hear accordion & harmonica as well, particularly on Lu’s older stuff.
And, in October, 2009, I saw violinist David Mansfield play w/ Lu & the band on a number of songs in NYC. I REALLY liked that…

April 14, 2011 at 1:55 pm #45908LWjettaParticipantI believe Lafayette posted Blake Mills cover of “I just wanted to see you so bad” in another thread singing at a club.
Here is Blake doing the same Lu song from his own living room in B&W.
Quote”
The Voice Project formed to support the women of war-ravaged Northern Uganda who use song to spread their message of healing and peace. The Project seeks out artists to create cover chains – one artist covers another who then covers another and so on – with donation and advertising revenue going to these women. In the latest episode, Blake Mills invited The Project into his living room and performed Lucinda Williams’ exuberant “I Just Wanted To See You So Bad” from her 1988 self-titled album.
He gives us a softer, more contemplative version of the song, with a skillful and percussive solo electric arrangement. He captures Williams’ drawl perfectly and infuses a sadder tone than that of the desperate original. Watch the video below.
End Quote”I’m sure we will see lots of Lu / Blake duets on the tours coming up.

Can’t wait…one more week and I’ll be seeing Blake, Lu, David, & Butch in Indianapolis at The Vogue!
