HELLO! First post! I just received WEST *. While I love it, I am puzzled as
to WHOM is “AMACKER” that she credits alot of the lyrics to. Can anyone help with this? ( I am in awe of Lucinda and the synchonicity between her lyrics and my life. My Mother also died recently..and I could go on and on
about the identical happenstances going on around me.)Didn’t mean to go off on a tangent here.
I am really intrigued by the AMACKER thing.
I do not have the cover sheet for this CD. So perhaps if I did I would know the answer, eh?
HELP!! PLEASEApril 4, 2007 at 11:11 am #32488HuguesParticipantThere is not any mention of AMACKER in the booklet… Where do you know that from?
May 18, 2007 at 8:00 am #32489LUCY122607ParticipantThis is the 4th try at posting this answer!! I don’t know if it’s the site
or I’m being “punished for staying away so long! lolNow this really feels like Deja’vu since I have already typed this 3
other times!I was looking on Google for the lyrics to “ARE YOU ALRIGHT?”
I was sent to a site called I THINK UpLyrics. Lucinda credits AMACKER.
I think the web addy is www.uplyrics.com/lucinda_williams_lyrics13089
Hope someone can solve this mystery! Thank you so much!

Maybe Lu found her inspiration here?
May 20, 2007 at 2:20 am #32493LeftyParticipantThe Amacker family settled in the Florida parishes of Louisiana in the early nineteenth century. Obadiah Pearson Amacker (1838-1910) rose to the rank of acting colonel in the 3rd (Wingfield’s) Regiment, CSA Cavalry. He married Abigail Means Kent in 1864. Following his discharge in 1865, the family moved to Greensburg, Louisiana, where Obadiah practiced law.
This collection includes a Civil War diary kept by Abigail (Kent) Amacker that describes life on the home front in the Florida parishes of Louisiana. A list, 1861, of the officers and men of the first company to leave St. Helena Parish, Louisiana, as part of the 4th Regiment, Louisiana Infantry, and Confederate records transcribed from the Louisiana State Library Commission document the service of the Amacker family in the Civil War. A printed pamphlet, 1959, contains genealogical records of the Amacker family from the eighteenth to the twentieth centuries.
Summary from a La. library’s microfilm files…
May 21, 2007 at 1:44 am #32494LeftyParticipantAmacker Bullwinkle (‘Yes, that is her name’) is a California-based artist and cultural figure. Looks like she’s created a number of rock ‘n’ roll posters that Wolfgang’s Vault has for sale. Maybe Lu is friends with her?
October 1, 2007 at 6:38 am #32495LUCY122607ParticipantHello again! Well I have been away a long time. I was interested in what
ya’all found out about Amacker. I wish there was someway we could get in touch with Lucinda and ask her!
Is that a pipe dream?
Does she or anyone from her camp stop by here or post? Do we know?
PS. THANKS TO LEFTY FOR THE GREAT WORK YOU DO ! ALMOST LOOKS LIKE A ONE PERSON SHOW MOST OF THE TIME!!
(I will be back if AOL lets me log in. It only took 6 trys this time!)
October 1, 2007 at 9:55 pm #32496LeftyParticipantI appreciate your kind words, Lucy. I’m not sure what I do as moderator, frankly. The oracle of our friendly forum is “Inside Job.” Hopefully, he/she will see your post and favor it with a reply! 🙂
October 12, 2007 at 2:39 am #32497Inside JobParticipantSorry, but there is no mystery here. There is no Amacker. I checked the website you saw it on and the link is no longer working. I also checked several other of the unofficial lyric sites and didn’t see it anywhere else. It had to have been some type of misprint.
October 18, 2007 at 2:48 pm #32498LUCY122607ParticipantThe site still works. The correct addy is www.uplyrics.com
However the “dedication” HAS been removed. I sent them a email asking why. I will keep you updated.
PS. Did ANYONE else go to that site WHEN it STILL had the dedication posted? Just curious. Thanks!
