From my perspective, B6 might want to move away from the usual NY, Allman Bros, GD, etc jam numbers and mine the songbooks to find a few diamonds to cover, no?

–> Rolling Stones: Beast of Burden
    Far Away Eyes

–> Elvis Costello: Watching The Detectives
    Radio Sweetheart

    –> Talking Heads: Psycho Killer
    Burning Down the House

    –> Willie Nelson: Crazy

Dylan- Positively Fourth Street, Ballad of a Thin Man, Someday Baby

Floyd- Comfortably Numb (or Mihalis (sp?) from Gilmour’s first solo album)

    Muddy- Baby Please Don’t Go

    Reed- Sweet Jane

Who-Sparks, Love Reign O’er Me, I Can See For Miles

    Clash- London Calling, Clampdown

Since the request was for an instrumental, I think a cover of:

The Allman Brother’s “Jessica” would be awesome to hear.

If they want to sing, since they did such a good job in Cinnamon Girl, why not try:

Neil Young’s “Cowgirl in the Sand”

Ain’t Gonna Eat Out My Heart Anymore, The Rascals (I’d like to hear Lu do that, now that I think about it.)

I have always thought that Motorhead’s Ace of Spades would make a pretty good country rocker if it was slowed down a touch!

TOverby: Have you selected a contest winner and the prizes? On the eve of the tour’s conception, this inquiring mind wants to know, yo! Just wondering what you have “come up with” in regards to this contest…

Of course with getting back on the road its been harder to respond this week but I will start here. The answer is that B6 has worked up some new things and is still working on a list of more, but they of course have to also focus on the day gig and getting Eric S. up to speed on the nearly 50 Lucinda songs he was given to start with -many of which have been re-done etc. I can say that I believe that Rumble is on the short list of things they are working on. The new additions to their set so far include:
    Marquee Moon– Television
The Perry Mason theme– done in a sort of Portishead-ish way
Erotic Fiasco– (their name) which is a combination of Prince’s Erotic City with a little of the Allmans One Way Out, and a pinch of James Brown thrown in.
They have also worked up Pale Blue Eyes by the Velvet Underground, but have not played it yet.

The suggestion box is still open, — this is an ongoing thing and we could have multiple winners over time. I think that right now I would offer up to the winners a pair of tickets to any show and the Buick 6 shirts and cd etc. I was considering also “win a date with Buick 6” but I think that would probably end up going out of bounds. (Insert proper smiley here)

Erotic Fiasco–awesome choice, from my perspective. I thought B6 with new member ES would slide nicely into some Prince–B6 dug deep into the PurpleOne’s catalog! New idea for a few songs: How about Zappa’s Black Napkins? And I still can’t get Cracker out of my head in terms of B6–Teen Angst (What the World Needs Now)-served up with all the Dieselbilly trimmings. Or Marvin Gaye perhaps?–a Let’s Get it On–Mercy, Mercy Me montage? Wilco–Handshake Drugs or Jesus, etc? Or perhaps: The Refreshments –> Banditos or King of the Hill theme song (great percussion)? The Tubes –> What do You Want from Life, maybe?

Since you asked, may I suggest an instrumental medley of any or all of these:

    Red House (Hendrix) into
Blues Before Sunrise (John Lee Hooker) into
Key To The Highway (ala Derek & the Dominos) into
    Cowgirl In The Sand (Young)

or they could always morph into Steve Earle’s West Nashville Blues.

And I’d have to agree with your closing remarks on Little Honey… you are Mr Lucky!

    All the best,
    Chris

    TO Overby
Congrats on a great tour down under.

Maybe Buick 6 will now have some time for their next recording and you can soon announce a contest winner (or winners) as you said earlier in February.
