Buick 6 is going to be working up some new covers in the next week -what song(s) would you want them to cover? It doesn’t necessarily have to be an instrumental just something that they could do as an instrumental and would lend itself well to that type of interpretation. Of course I can’t guarantee that anything that is suggested will get done, but if somebody does come up with a winner, I will come up with some kind of prize (tickets etc). So bring on your ideas.

How about some old Allman Brothers? Being a Georgia Boy, I’d love to hear that. Lends itself very well to jammin’ & would be a real crowd pleaser, IMHO.
“Don’t Want You No More” or “It’s Not My Cross To Bear” come to mind. Or, if they want to play an instrumental that was originally an instrumental, there’s always “In Memory of Elizabeth Reed”…

February 9, 2009 at 1:29 pm #38717stellablueeeParticipanti want to second Green Onions but you’d need a keyboardist or that wouldn’t work.
(one of my favorite music moments was hearing Booker T do that in the fillmore!!!)
or Big River, i think they could do a shredding version.
as far as instrumentals, they could try:
Peaches en Regalia (frank zappa)
Rebel Rouser (duane eddy)
Jessica (allman brothers)
Zeppelin of their choice (ok, Going to California done as an instrumental and Chet needs to learn mandolin)
that ought to keep those boys on their toes!that was fun………
lisaFebruary 9, 2009 at 3:39 pm #38718tonygKeymasterYa I forgot about the organ. Same thing for Time is Tight.
February 9, 2009 at 3:41 pm #38719TimParticipantChet plays the organ! “I Hear You Knockin'” would be out of site Lefty.
February 9, 2009 at 5:08 pm #38720stellablueeeParticipanti thought i remembered chet playing organ the first time i heard him (el rey shows) but it slipped my mind, good remembering tim!
well whatever they come up with (those were off the top of my head monday morning at 5am)

February 9, 2009 at 5:25 pm #38721fuji81ParticipantHow about a 30 minute version of Dark Star? Just kidding, although a Good Lovin’ > Turn On Your Lovelight >Not Fade Away medley would be a nice flashback.
February 9, 2009 at 6:36 pm #38726pcblueParticipantHow about Link Wray’s Rumble??? Great set opener!
February 9, 2009 at 6:50 pm #38727DavidinMaineParticipantHmmm, trafficking in covers in light of a new set of guitar skills/experience (Eric Schermerhorn → Iggy Pop, David Bowie, The The). With this in mind, let’s dig a bit deeper and perhaps tap some cover energy:
1. Cracker: Euro Trash Girl
2. New Riders of the Purple Sage: Panama Red
3. Ian Dury and the Blockheads: Hit Me with Your Rhythm Stick
4. The Kinks: Celluloid Heroes
5. Van Morrison: Wavelength
6. Bruce Springstein: Thunder Road
7. Grateful Dead: Shakedown Street
8. Prince: Purple Rain (done newgrass style)
9. Yes: Long Distance Runaround (done newgrass style)
10. Nick Lowe: (What’s so Funny ‘bout) Peace, Love, and UnderstandingFebruary 10, 2009 at 6:30 am #38728baconusParticipantNeil Young – Cortez the Killer
JAM IT ALL NIGHT LONG 😀 😀 😀
February 10, 2009 at 11:08 pm #38729highseasParticipantMaybe something by “CREAM” — “White Room” – “Crossroads” ???
February 11, 2009 at 2:53 am #38730parkercaParticipantThe Rolling Stones “Moonlight Mile”
Bob Dylan “Blind Willie Mctell”
