Great show. I think this is the best Lu has sounded since 2002! I missed a couple, but here’s the gist (and not necessarily in order…sorry):

    People Talkin’
    Ventura
    Car Wheels
    Circles and Xs
    Side of the Road
    Pineola
    Drunken Angel
    Overtime
    Real Love
    Essence
    Come On
    Real Live Bleeding Fingers
    Honeybee
    Joy
    Righteously
    Angel (Hendrix)
    Little Rock Star
It’s A Long Way To The Top

What better reason to join the Forum than this: thanks for the setlist! World Without Tears is prime here, as some recent shows Lu has played only 1-2 off it. Sellout? Did you buy any merch? Going again tonight, Sassbox?

You got it pretty damn close if you did it from memory – I needed my “notepad” on my phone to keep track… here’s the full list:

    People Talkin’
    Ventura
Car Wheels on a Gravel Road
    Circles and X’s
    Pineola
    Drunken Angel
    Side of the Road
    Everything Has Changed
Something About What Happens When We Talk
    Over Time
    Tears of Joy
    Are You Down?
    Real Love
    Essence
    Come On
Real Live Bleeding Fingers and Broken Guitar Strings
    Honey Bee
    Joy
    Righteously

    Encore:
Angel (J Hendrix) – solo acoustic
    Little Rock Star
Long Way to the Top (AC/DC)

I have to admit, I missed Doug – but the current guys made some of the material their own. I’m looking forward to seeing how she changes it up tonight.

I’ll have a full account of both shows on my site… http://soundoffwithdave.com/

I’m SO glad she touched on so much World Without Tears material. It’s easily my favorite album of hers, and one of my favorites of all time.

Last night WAS a sell out – tonight’s is not yet.

She has something really cool going on at the merch table… a “Ticket service charge refund” $7 off a shirt, $5 off a CD

    Way to give back…

Sounds like another great show – thanks for the setlists & info. Lu continues to mix it up – stoger can correct me if I am wrong, but this may be the tour debut of “Ventura”. Also, she did not play “Car Wheels…” at either the B’ham or Atlanta shows. Good stuff…

Yeah, she announced this from the stage at the Atlanta show. Lu & Tom really DO care about the fans…

Indeed, Tom, both “Ventura” and “Over Time” from WWT were tour debuts, I do believe (thanks to TOverby again for setlists for shows I couldn’t make). And this flat-fee discount on merch seems about right, more than generous in fact–Lafayette and TN Tracy were involved in computations based on their ticket receipts, and all of us were wondering how this would be implemented. Flat amounts rather than percentages make Susannah’s life around the merch table that much more pleasant, I would imagine.

Thx for the reports. Is there a pedal steel on Ventura? Who plays it? Good?

Last night was my first Lu show. Wow. I was really impressed. Buick 6 had a real sharp edge to them. I liked that a lot.

At the end of the show she made a comment on out of control ticket prices.

In B’ham & Atlanta, Chet played pedal steel & did a good job (although “Ventura” was not performed)…

I found your blog, Dave, and came in to post. No need for that, now!

I look forward to your Twitter updates on tonight’s show.

Generous offer on part of Lu and Tom to reconcile ticket fees. It’s really a shame she feels compelled to make this wrong a right with $$$ out of her pocket. My hat’s off to her.

washington post review blog of the first night at the 9:30 club:

most interesting are these two reader comments at the bottom of the review:

I must say, for Lucinda fans I think the Tuesday show probably trended more toward “one for the books.” It was one for me.

Sure, I would have preferred a few more up-tempo numbers and a few more of my personal favorites mixed in. But what really speaks to the show’s quality is how much I really enjoyed some of the songs I’ve never cared for that much on her records. The band put real meat on some that have never seemed quite there, while the vast majority of the down-tempo songs were just gorgeous. Just think: have you ever heard the 9:30 Club that silent? That says a lot, to me.

Have to agree with previous comment. I’m not fond of People Talking recorded; live it was extraordinary. The quality of Lucinda’s voice and Buick 6’s drummer made last night one for the books. Song selection was perfect, minus I Envy, but Overtime will suffice in lieu. The Honey Bee song live– again, who knew? And they ate at Nathans– I’m sorry but I have to give the props at the altar of Lucinda.

Whoo hoo: Buick 6 dons different threads between sets, good to hear this emphasis on the boys’ sartorial splendor, from the Wash. Post. Thanks Ray. The Post’s Richard Harrington is the music critic to end all critics, don’t know this Klimek guy but it’s a lively review–if going off on tangents a bit much. Let’s hope the costuming and cosmetics of the frontwoman and band held up on night two. . . .

Nice, I have that set list taped to my wall. It was the one that Eric Schermorhorn used, taped to the floor. Ican’t wait to see her in Baltimore in 2 months!!
