    Lucinda: I’m No Buttercup
    ‘Blessed,’ Lucinda Williams, Tuesday

Lucinda Williams opens her third album in four years by sending a lover packing, singing in her weathered voice, “Good luck finding your buttercup.” But the famously love-scarred songwriter doesn’t linger in heartbreak. Instead, she gets in others’ heads (“Soldier’s Song”), reflects on the power of memory (“Ugly Truth”) and explores the upside of romance (“Kiss Like Your Kiss”). Produced by Don Was, the album also features Elvis Costello, who instead of singing plays the role of guitar hero with swaggering solos on three songs.

ugly truth, power of memory? just because that perception of omniscience (“swallow your pride/ swallow your pills/ in your house, up in the hills/ leave your husband/ leave your wife/ keep on runnin’/ your whole life/ sweep your dirt, under the rug/ fix your hurt with a little love”), of seeing all at once (“from the cradle to the grave…”) you have sometimes towards a person who screws up with you or with his own life. it’s not memory, it’s caring about people.

KLYK, upside of romance? (as in the advantages of being in love?)
