Great reports from up north from our roving ambassadors. Let’s get this thread going. It’s raining here, rained all night, but it should stop tonite. The city of Ventura awaits Lucinda and her friends.

    Who’s going?

Wow tonyg, nothing here but the sound of crickets? I’ll be there for sure as only a catyclysmic event would keep me from attending. I swung by the box office on Monday and upgraded my previous VIP tix to Dinner VIP (thanks to stoger for making me aware of the added third tier). I have several friends who are also dining with me, should be 8 of us.

Also, here’s a local interview from Bill Locey;in particular my attention was grabbed when Lucinda is describes her fanbase and mentions fans who bring their 9 year old daughters. Hahaha, guilty party here as stoger and west words can attest to from the Fillmore shows. My girl will not be at the Ventura show as it’s a school nite, but Friday’s Royce Hall show is most likely.

Awesome, GrumpyMama. I see the doors are at 7. I’ll have to get there early if I want to get something to eat before the show. Enjoy your vip seats and dinner.

Road warriors, does the show start at 8? What time will it end? It is a weeknight, you know. 🙂

I’m filing a live report from the venue at 745 pm. I have exchanged pleasantries with Stoger, Cindy, Paul from Los Angeles, and Grumpy Mama. We are ready for some music.

Ps. I see west words off in the distance but no chit chat yet.

You know how you’re driving down the freeway and some jackass about 3 cars in front of you cuts madly across 5 lanes of traffic to take an exit he almost missed, leaving the freeway sideways with sparks flying? That was me last night, getting off the 101 at California Street. Sorry.

After a quiet dinner at Watermark, happy to be still alive, we moseyed on over the the Ventura Theater at 6:45 and the doors had already been opened, the crowd filed in. I scored 2 seats in the non-vip section on a riser overlooking the entire seating area, really a nice seat just not too close to the stage. Close to the bar? Yes. I spied West Words and Stoger sitting right at the foot of the stage where the dinner tables were so I expect we will have up close and personal reports from them. GrumpyMama was also stagefront and I was pleased to meet her later. Thx for the drink!

Blake’s set was short and sweet, leaving you wanting more. Isn’t that the perfect opening set? Danielle Haim accompanied on percussion. I will leave his set list to Stoger.

Lucinda hit the stage at 8:52, looking fabulous and seemed to be in great spirits. Her voice was excellent. I like her guitar playing and in the duo format I could hear her guitar as clear as a bell.
She dedicated Kiss for Your Kiss to newly married Doug Pettibone and Liz but it still did not dawn on me that the extra amp on the stage was Doug’s. I tried live blogging but my fat fingers on my little iphone impaired by wine and the constant need to sign in every 2 seconds made me abandon that. The crowd was light at first but by showtime we had a good crowd and the balcony was open as well. Several people shouted out Happy Birthday to Lu, her birthday being Thursday.

Doug Pettibone joined Lu and Blake for Joy and Get Right With God and he was great as always. Danielle Haim also returned for percussion. Lu did something I have never seen before and exited the stage during Get Right With God, waving as she left. Like Elvis. The show was over at 11:12.

When we hit the side walk for schmoozing we realized that Lu’s quick getaway meant she was already on the bus, locked up and shut down. No chit chat. Bleh.

It was great to see Stoger, Paul From Los Angeles, West Words, Cindy, GrumpyMama, Doug, Liz, Tom O., and our famed Webmasta Ralph. Have fun in Solana Beach.

Not much to add, Tony: and I certainly couldn’t have provided the real time update bulletins you did. At any rate, the main set ended with “Changed the Locks.” Blake did more original material than usual, new song I think with “Dog” in title. Only one cover–and that was the Lu song.

The view from up front? Mighty fine, but the house was pretty empty all in all. Still, a fine night of songs.

It was Dead Dog, Stoger. What was the song wher he sang “I’m Sorry I Fucked Up” over and over?

Oops. Guess the censor module ain’t workin either.

I believe the title with 16 f-bombs (symmetrically split in two series of eights) is called “Don’t Tell Our Friends About Us.” Or perhaps the pronoun at end is “me.” At any rate, if the key word goes by the censor one time, it should be good for sixteen.
