1 I Just Wanted to See You So Bad
2 Happy Woman Blues
3 I Lost It
4 Metal Firecracker [with two false starts, but. . .]
5 Steal Your Love [preceded by Lu taking the lyric book off the stand and twirling round the stage a bit with it, saying “I can’t see anything without my glasses”–a couple of extended, woozy guitar breaks during the song get her mood back better: later in the show, she references David Johannson of the New York Dolls using such a book]
6 2 Kool to B 4 Gotten
7 Tears of Joy
8 Side of the Road [with Chet only, so Tony, you’re probably right that it was that way in Anaheim too]
9 I Envy the Wind [with a note that the singer Lila (sp.?) Downs has covered this one, in English and in Spanish]
10 Bus to Baton Rouge
11 Which Will [!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!]
12 Right in Time
13 Drunken Angel
14 Real Love
15 Little Rock Star [preceded by Lu asking us if we are alright, then assuring us that they would rock from here on out]
16 Essence
17 Come On [before which Lu expounds upon the problem two songs ago, a female “passed out” with her hand on the stage, the male ushering her out: this is pronounced “rude” and worse]
18 Honeybee
19 Joy
20 Righteously [before which Lu revisits the slumbering patron issue, calling this a “funny night” and saying she’s glad there are no “cookie cutter” shows on her tours]
______________________________________________________________________
21 Wrap My Head Around That [abbreviated, with some banter with Butch after]
22 Changed the Locks
23 It’s a Long Way to the TopYeah, I’ve been able to stay in hotels walking distance to the venues, so even though I travel without a laptop, I’m often able to post from the guest computer in the lobby. Or, failing that, sneaking into adjacent rival hotel lobbies and sidling up to the table with the hardware, going to it as if I were a guest there. Tonight it’s legit.
Nick introduced Buick 6 into a dead mike, but he was dressed to the nines, necktie and coat. Take that, you Kiwi blogger types. The person next to me said after the first Buick 6 song that they were “film score potential.” Probably so.
I told Susannah others had posted her name on this Forum; she seemed surprised. By then I felt intimate enough to pop the question: Is there a silent “h” on the end of your name, or no? Yes, reader, there is, so Lefty and I win the prize for getting that right, and Paul, Lafayette, and Tony will have to do penance for ending it with a vowel. Also, as I was passing by near the end of the Buick 6 set toward the men’s room, Susannah hailed me and asked about a specific Buick 6 song on the record, as a potential merch buyer wanted to know. I think I answered it correctly. At any rate, I am now, as it were, a kind of consultant to the merch manager. Not an unflattering role.
Can you believe that sequence from song nine till song eleven? Despite the front row fiasco, Lucinda loves the Rialto and I think would only try out such a radical acoustic trio midset in front of such an appreciate crowd. Nick Drake lives.
Tony, I don’t remember Lucinda getting around to introducing the band at all in Anaheim, much less an audience shout out for Doug. But I’m probably wrong. She seldom forgets.
I knew Rialto had permanent seats in balcony, but there were dozens of temp. chairs on floor, thus lessening the rush to the front. It was possible to enter two hours after doors and get almost to front. Sweet.

May 30, 2009 at 1:40 pm #39793tntracyParticipantExcellent report, as always, stoger – many thanks. “Not cookie cutter” indeed = “Which Will”, “Wrap My Head Around That”, “Envy The Wind” – Lu always has a surprise or two, doesn’t she?

May 30, 2009 at 6:44 pm #39794baconusParticipantThis was my third time seeing Lucinda and a really good show overall. Even though I got there a little later than I was hoping I was able to get on the rail far house right, which worked out perfect because Rialto had setup some monitors on the sides of the stages helping with the sound quality issues that sometimes occur near the front.
The show started of strong with the new Buick 6, for all those reading the negative reviews about the new band all I can say is reserve judgment until you see them. They are different then they were with Doug but they are still a great band and Eric does a great job and most importantly is seeming to fit in with the band and have a lot of fun. The band is a little less country/blues and a little more psychedelic/surfer but the still get down on all the old tunes too.
There were some issues with “Metal Firecracker” due to a misread capo position, but once they figured it out the song worked fine. “Steal Your Love” was a major highlight for me, it was the first time I’ve seen it live and had a really cool vibe. “Side Of The Road” was another highlight for me and it worked really well with just acoustic and electric guitar.
At some point around “Little Rock Star” a women 7 or 8 people to the left of me passed out or something. Her boyfriend/husband didn’t want to leave and tried propping her up for a few songs which distracted Lucinda during the beginning of “Little Rock Star” prompting her asking if everyone was alright. Eventually, during “Essence”, the man decided that he had to get off the rail and took his sleeping girlfriend with him. Once they were gone Lucinda commented it was nice to see everybody in front was alive and it was very distracting to see this women and it caused a few slip ups. See included some hilarious mime of the women being propped up and falling back down and concluded she should be more of a bitch and called the man out right away. She used her anger from this incident to create an exceptionally angry “Come On” which was when the show started to really get rocking. Every song after this point was as good as it gets. Unfortunately, as always as always at Rialto the crowd rushed out the doors after the first encore meaning “Angel” was scratched.
After the show I was lucky enough to get Eric’s setlist, which I have included. When I got it the security guy told me if I sold it in the parking lot I could probably get 50$ for it, but I would never do that.
Overall great show and I am excited to see her again tonight in Phoenix. I am really hoping to get “Can’t Let Go” and maybe “Angel” if the crowd sticks around tonight, but I am happy with anything.
P.S. sorry if this is a bit long 🙂

Great report.
I’ll second that. Thanks for checking in, baconus.
May 30, 2009 at 10:28 pm #39797LafayetteParticipant“Wrap My Head Around That” ~ I came so very close to posting, very recently, that song is on my list of ones I would LOVE to hear! I push repeat on that song several times, and then some, when “West” is in the CD changer.
HA! I had an “h” on Susannah’s name and then thought better after viewing someone’s previous post. I will do penance, but please, don’t force me into the confessional. Too intimidating!
If you want to have a little fun with Susannah with an “h”, if you can come up with an oh so clever statement type shirt, I’ll have one made for her from the friendly forum.
Thanks for the reports!
