Setlist is NOT in order, perhaps someone can set the record straight. My brain is a bit scrambled right now. Lu and Buick 6 were ON both nights. Vocally, the strongest I’ve seen her. Simply stunning…more info later.

“West” is such a personal record for me. “Wrap My Head Around That” would be the only song added to that list I would pine to hear. I’m bummed I won’t be able to stay for this show in Chitown, however, grateful I will be making the trip for at least one.
Looking forward to additional thoughts about the show!

Lafayette, you’d like “Fancy Funeral” & “Mama You Sweet” again too, right? But “Wrap” would be a treat for Thursday night, to be sure. Sorry you won’t make that one.
October 13, 2009 at 12:05 am #40938LafayetteParticipantYes, stoger, “Mama You Sweet” (especially!) and “Fancy Funeral” would be amazing, I forgot their inclusion. I actually can relate to “Are You Alright” as well, especially the line “Are you sleeping through the night,” even though it was written about her brother, that line brings it all home for me.
I first heard “Mama You Sweet” on the World Cafe interview. Sweet. Bittersweet, really.

The “ballads” were played with tremendous sensitivity all night. The combination of great acoustics and great audience(no untimely yelps)made for some truly magical moments. “I Envy The Wind”, “Blue”, and “Overtime” were sung by an angel with a broken heart. The longing, the aching beauty… words fall short. The “rockers” blew the roof off the joint. Buick 6 ripped it up, without overpowering the vocals. The mix was awesome.
Eric’s contributions to “Out Of Touch” and “Essence” in particular, have come along way IMO. I knew we were in for a special night, when Lu commented early on about how happy she was with the sound in the room. We all know, when Mama’s happy, everybody’s happy. Sunday night, Mama was happy.October 13, 2009 at 2:03 am #40942fuji81ParticipantSecond Set
Chet added some wonderful fills and color on the keys during “Learning How To Live”. Great version. “Unsuffer Me” breathed fire as usual, with Lu digging deep, bent knee and head back belting it out. Primal.
“West”, was well done, with Lu in the “zone”. Made me want to come out West and see… pure bliss.
“Well Well Well was fun, with Chet and Eric trading tasty licks. Smokin’ version of “Real Love”, brought the crowd to life. During “Honey Bee” some people(myself included)couldn’t sit any longer, David’s bass line all but demanded us to get off our ass, and have some fun. Sure, you can have fun on your ass, but come on…this isn’t a night at the opera. “Long Way To The Top” had Buick6 kicking it into high gear during the closing jam…smiles all around, with Lu clapping her hands, and dancing. It must have been contagious, by the end of the show everyone was on their feet, getting their Joy back! -
