Hardly a one-off, Strictly a two-off CA swing, so I hear.
Mike, Lu is scheduled to play in Ojai that Saturday and in San Fran Sunday at Hardly Strictly, is what Mr. S. Is getting at, I believe. 😀
Hope you’re right about that HSBF date Tony.
Not going to make the Topa, but if Lu is playing HSBF Sunday (as opposed to Friday ) that would leave open the possibility of a stand alone SF show following the festival as she has in the past…
Tell the truth, Tony: you had something to do with the former lead guitarist getting fourth bill on this poster. Even so, it’s good to see that listing; I have both his records, despite a dubious executive producer credit on the latter.
Lawn seats and VIP tables sold out but GA seats remain! Don’t miss this show, it will be memorable. 😉

I could go on for hours about the trials and tribulations of putting on a 2-day music festival but enough about me. Music began at 2 pm and by the time Lu took the stage the place was pretty full. Lu was all business at first and did not crack a smile that I could notice for the first few songs. I was working backstage and alternately running off somewhere to do something which was not the ideal scenario for appreciating the music and reporting on it. But I could hear it and occasionally see it. The music was solid and the crowd was very enthusiastic after 4.5 hours of mostly downbeat folky music. I was watching from afar when Doug took the stage and Lu was beaming and excited. I missed most of what happened after that as I was sent to go get food.
My take is that Lu is mourning the loss of Tom Petty and this was a pretty good shot at getting back in the saddle after what were some of her best performances in a while. The festival was a great success thanks to Lu and the promoters were tickled to death to have her and the charity will get a sizable donation as a result.
Ask me about Shooter Jennings sometime. The beer drinkers were in ecstasy. His bulldog Pancake was funny. The second picture is Lu with the promoter Polly Hoganson.

So who played lead guitar on the Pre-Pettibone unasterisked numbers, Tony? That Patty Griffin player mentioned in the other thread? Stuart still in Nash?
