Favorite artists certainly can fluctuate. At present, my top 5 have been running consistent and as follows:

    1. John Mellencamp ~ That’s a given and lwy, your suspicions are spot on!
    2. Amos Lee
    3. Lucinda
    4. Mike Younger
    5. Stoll Vaughan

I had a lengthy discussion about Mike and Stoll in Tift’s thread. Wanted to comment on some observations and queries from lwj.

    lwj writes:

Stoll-A great interview and song set on WNKU. His unfortunate fire on his RV, losing guitars and all and being rescued by other musicians reminded me of TOverby’s or Inside Job’s unfinished story about the fire on Lu’s Metal Firecracker

Stoll was very humbled by Def Lepperd and Journey’s generosity. Neil Schon (spelling?) of Journey handed him a guitar when he showed up that next day after the fire. The one thing that wasn’t mentioned and I learned about in a blog, and then had Stoll confirm, is not only did Stoll lose everything in that RV, his guitar(s), computer, including songs he had written, but he also lost $10,000 in cash he had just won in Atlantic City that very night! Everyone tells him that’s a song in and of itself but to this day I don’t think he’s written it.

Stoll’s new CD “The Weatherman”, I must check with my local record shop for this one.]

I’m not sure if his new CD is in the stores, but I found a link where you can order it (and his last one in a combo pack if you like) HERE. If you do order and you have any problems let me know (i.e. shipping to Canada isn’t on menu) and I can order one for you and send it.

    http://www.stollvaughan.com/cd.html

Stoll has one of the most impressive web sites I’ve seen, what with aliens and fish coming out of nowhere on the Turquoise Universe link. Very cleverly done.]

He listens to Coast To Coast onAM radio. If you’re not familiar with Coast to Coast google it and you will understand the alien theme of his website 😯 😆

Public Radio like WNKU and KCRW gives us fans such a music treat. We have a similar network in Canada-the CBC with rare interviews and music.

Mike- Again more great Americana. I see he has played at the Ryman.
Lafayette, I loved your quote on his web site (Fans Speak) re: his album ” Every Stone You Throw” Quote” really grabs the listener”

That Ryman gig was a pinnacle for Mike. I haven’t seen him perform for close to three years. He sticks close to Nashville but I am hoping he will come to the WNKU listening area once his new record goes to radio. He was in heavy rotation at WNKU, a fan favorite, with his last release .

    Again, thanks for your report

NO, thank you, you never cease to amaze me. I’m surprised you watched Stoll’s entire WNKU performance AND went to his website AND want to purchase a CD.

Hey Lafayette, as to Amos # 2 from his album”Last Days at the Lodge” Greg Liesz played pedal steel.
As TOverby just reported, Greg played rhythm guitar on Lu’s new song “Kiss Like Your Kiss”

Here is a quote on Amos album I’m sure you have seen before.
    QUOTE:
All songs are Lee compositions and he also plays guitars. His core rhythm section is made up of Doyle Bramhall, Jr on guitar, Spooner Oldham on keyboards, Pino Palladino on bass and James Gadson on drums but also making appearances are Greg Liesz on pedal steel, Rami Jafee on keys, Jamie Muhoberac on additional keys, Justin Stanley on keys, bass, drums, percussion, Don Was on keys and Patrick Leonard on harmonium & b-3. String arrangements are by the legendary Larry Gold.

It doesn’t quite reach the dizzy heights of sweetness and angst that his self-titled debut Amos Lee did but I definitely prefer this to its follow up, Supply and Demand. Four very solid stars.
    END QUOTE
Small world isn’t it?-all these links to Lucinda.

Yes, I love connecting dots ! Add Elvis Costello as another dot, sort of, Amos was opening act for the Dylan / Costello run a few years ago.

I’m very excited to see what type of direction Lucinda goes with her new material.

Here is some footage I took in March of Amos at the Mercy Lounge in Nashville. The stage lights (and the vertical challenge of the videographer) were positioned such that the lighting on the footage is not the best, but the audio is pretty damn good.

“Truth” from “Last Days at The Lodge” (where he holed himself up in the famous Sportsman Lodge in LA to write the material for the record.)

One of the new songs he premiered, hopefully will end up on his new record. He said he was unsure on what direction he would be taking in the studio. “Cup Of Sorrow” may end up completely different than as performed.

Thanks for all the dot connecting!

Hey Lafayette, are you going for a new record?
4 out of 5 ain’t bad in less than 1 month.

I’ll bet if West Words / tntracy egg you on any further a grand slam for Artist #3. would be awesome.
You have covered a lot of territory.

Lafayette – DO IT!!! And while you’re at it, make up your mind to come out West and see the best that it can be – the Lu/JP/Chrissie shows.

LWJ, I do believe you are an instigator! 😉 😀

So many things going on in this thread! 😆

First, to lwj, I actually saw Mike Younger (for the first time in 3 years) the later part of June. He played a small bar AND a Studio 89 at WNKU 89.7. Mark him down as June 27 & June 28.

In regards to adding to my top 5 performers, I may be adding to the list (Tom & Sandy, as it’s looking better) Lu’s Saratoga show! Sandy, unfortunately, this isn’t one of your shows, the shows you are attending will definitely not work for me.

I’m on the fence in regards to Chuck Prophet. I would love to see him live, however, I also know I need to keep my rear home for awhile if I plan on heading to CA? See my dilemna? I will think about Chuck since ya’ll have been raving about him so much.

OK I modified my post to state 4 out of 5 is outstanding in less than a month.
I sure have enjoyed Mike’s “Hustled By Squares” CD you gave me in Windsor last week.
    Saratoga? What can I say?

I quote from your August Shows post of July 3rd.

Lafayette – per the below, please try to make a miracle happen and join us for the West Coast gigs. You know you want to! Else, can you really wait till 2011…
