By “rare”, I mean songs she has written or performed on a compilation disc, but rarely performed live.
For example “Lafayette” from “Happy Woman Blues” OR “Gentle On My Mind” from “Talladega Nights”Mine are (in no particular order):
1. Hang Down Your Head “World Without Tears Bonus Track”
2. Howling At Midnight “Happy Woman Blues”
3. Gentle On My Mind (Talladega Nights)
4. Satisfied Mind “Ramblin'”
5. Two of Us (Lucinda and Doug)
6. Cold, Cold Heart “Tribute to Hank Williams”
7. Like A Rose “Lucinda Williams”
8. Nothin’ “Tribute to Townes Van Zandt”
9. Memphis Pearl “Sweet Old World”
10. He Never Got Enough Love “Sweet Old World”I would like to hear anything pre-CWOGR. Seriously. Real Love and Honey Bee, etc just don’t hold up to the lyrics/music/emotionality when held side-to-side. It will be interesting to see the responses err-flame responses from the cheerleaders…

I Can’t Seem to Make it Through Sundays (is that the right title) on the re-release of the Rough Trade CD. I love that song and it would be such a treat to see it live – although second to Side of the Road in my mind.

The last song of the KOCH release of the Rought Trade self titled album is simply listed as Sundays (plaural). The first line of the song is “I can’t seem to make it through Sunday” (singular), which is also how she sings it. So whatever you want to call it, we know what you mean. I love this song too.
Oh, and Lucinda is credited with writing the song.

All I Want. I have a few different recordings of it, from 1980 to 1993, and I would rank it up there with anything else she’s written; certainly, it’s my favorite song that has not shown up on an album.
Given that she looked back to the ’80s for two songs on Little Honey, and that she’s brought back a lot of other older songs that hadn’t been played in a while, I think this one merits another look.
Other than that, I’d love to hear just about anything. Still haven’t caught a cover of Masters of War, which would be great. Cold, Cold Heart was (I think) the first Lucinda song I ever heard, and that would be great to hear in concert. Also, I was just listening to the Rough Trade album last weekend and forgot how much I like Sundays.

“Nothing” features the vocals of Lucinda Williams. This song, which is about the troubles of life, is one of those goose bump-raising tunes. “Sorrow And Solitude, These are the precious things and the only words that are worth remembering,” Lucinda sings mournfully.

Always loved this version and have just stumbled across this thread while trying to find out who’s playing the slide guitar on it, the sleevenotes don’t seem to say who it is.
Is it Doug or perhaps Colin Linden who’s co-credited as the track’s producer with Lucinda, anyone know?

Weirdly, I witnessed a live performance of “Return of the Greivous Angel” last night at Zoeys in Ventura by a band called Calico The Band, with Doug Pettibone on pedal steel. Calico The Band is comprised of 3 female singers/guitarists and will be at SXSW in March. Anyone attending should check these ladies out as they were tremendous. 😀
