Tim Easton released his fifth album Porcupine last week. I think it’s his best record, even if Lucinda doesn’t appear on this one (like she did on Ammunition). I also see that Tim’s management is now in competent hands with one Mr. Overby.

Though Lu doesn’t appear on the record, she contributes in other ways…

Just ordered a copy! Thanks for the heads up & the video link. I love that poster on the wall behind Lu…

Tom, I think Tim is heading to your neck of the woods next week, btw.

Thanks again, David! I guess you could sell me about anything today – I just ordered tickets to Tim’s show in Atlanta. It’s at one of my favorite little (tiny, in fact) music venues – The Earl. It is a funky, “alternative” bar w/ a music room in the back in the Village of East Atlanta, a cool little neighborhood east of downtown. And, they make one helluva burger! To top it off, Tim’s show is on the eve of my 50th birthday, so I just have to go!

Sarah & I saw a great, high-energy show by Tim Easton & his band (Tim on lead, a bass player & a drummer – I don’t remember the other two guys’ names – sorry – but they were good – esp. the drummer – he kicked butt!) last night at the Earl in East Atlanta. The only disappointment of the night was the sparse crowd – only about 40 – 50 people showed up for the show. Nonetheless, we had a blast & saw some great live music up close & personal.

I snagged a setlist after the show (not much competition in getting one!) – Here it is:

    The Young Girls
    Broke My Heart
    Burgundy Red
    Baltimore
    Porcupine
Southbound (this is what the set list has, and he joked around beforehand whether he should play “Southbound” or “Northbound” – he actually played “Northbound” off of the new album. I don’t know if he actually has a song called “Southbound” or not)
    Stormy
    Black Dog
    Not Today
    Dear Old Song & Dance
    Weight Of Changing Everything
    I Wish You Well
    Next To You
    In Love With You
    News Blackout
    Get What I Want
    Just Like Home

Also, and I don’t remember exactly where in the set, but it was one of the last 4 or 5 songs, he played a scathing (and that’s just the word that popped into my mind last night as he & the band played it) version of Lu’s song “Joy”. When he played it, I just assumed it was on the setlist but, as you can see from above, it wasn’t. Earlier in the show, I had shouted out, “Play one for Lu!” & he quickly replied, “We will”, so I don’t know if “Joy” was actually in response to my request or not, but it was an awesome, super high energy version (the drummer was particularly good here).

And, as those familiar with Tim’s releases can see, the set was almost all from his last two albums, Porcupine (his newest) and Ammunition (the album that features the duet w/ Lu, “Back To The Pain”). Early in the set (the first 7 songs he played were all off of Porcupine) he mentioned, almost (but not quite!) apologetically, that the new album was more “rock” than his first 4 were. The show sure reflected that, but the crowd, such as it was, did not seem to mind. I, for one, thought he put on an awesome “rock” show…
