    tntracy;
You commented under the thread for Laura Viers as follows:
All artists worthy of anyone’s attention indeed, DiM, although, because of a built-in bias for female vocalists, as well as a limited budget, I lean towards Ms. Veirs. However, a soft spot in my heart for Mr. Louvin would tempt me in that direction as well..

    How about this gal?
I was searching Americana / Roots and came across Tift’s music.
If you are not familiar, she won a Grammy in 2004 for “Tambourine”,has appeared on Letterman, appeared on Austin City Limits October, 2007 and has a new album “Buckingham Live” which was recorded live in 2008 from Buckingham, England.
She is also a professional photographer.
I am continually impressed by the performers on Austin City Limits. You can purchase Tift’s “Live From Austin, TX DVD from PBS or Amazon.

Here is a sample video from Tift’s ACL performance “Good Hearted Man”

Lots of good music to discover.

Yup, I am very familiar w/ Ms. Merritt, having 2 of her CDs (Bramble Rose & Tambourine). Very talented young lady, indeed…

Her new album comes out on May 25. Check out Another Country if you don’t have it. She also put out an e.p. with the Two Dollar Pistols which is very good as well.

Another Country is an exquisite album. I saw Tift along with Teddy Thompson at The Variety in Atlanta a couple of years ago. Both were great.
I am so looking forward to Tift’s new album in May.

Here is a link to Tift’s MySpace.
    2 nice videos to watch.
    1. Tift with her camera singing “Broken” done in classic black and white.
    2. Her appearance on Letterman singing “Morning is my Destination” while on the piano.

I.m also looking forward to her new album and perhaps seeing an expanded tour in 2010-to Canada-eh?

Regarding the expanded tour, and being so spoiled by Lucinda’s relentless touring, that’s my only gripe w/ Tift. Doesn’t tour as actively. It’s been two years since she’s been to Mpls. But, I’m being selfish. I can only hope that this talented artist makes a stop on her next tour. There are all sorts of downloads available at her fan site, quick registration required:

The last few have been live takes from the upcoming album. They sound good. Can’t wait for the new album.

Thanks for those links, vinylfan and LW.

Tift also has a radio spot called “The Spark” where she has interviewed Patty Griffin and Emmylou and others.

Living in the Atlanta area, that’s one show I’m sorry to say I missed! 🙁

Thanks vinylfan and drunkenangel for the links.
The downloads from the new album”See You on the Moon” are great, as well as her “The Spark” interviews.-loved the one with Emmylou Harris.

Since we were discussing Tift’s music, I thought I would re-post Tim’s thread of April 23, 2008 elsewhere in this Forum.
This is a great 37 minute video performance from KCRW Los Angeles April 17, 2008 with Doug Pettibone in the band.

I am SO excited. I LOVE Amos Lee. He is in my top 5 artists along with JM and LU. I’m headed to Nashville next week to see him. After I purchased those tickets, a Louisville show was added. Uh huh, I bought tickets for that show. NOW, Cincinnati has been added AND for that show TIFT MERRITT is opening!

I’m binging on Amos while patiently waiting on Lu and JM.

Your wish was just granted if you can settle for her as opening act. She is opening a few select dates for Amos Lee and Minneapolis is one of those shows.

They are playing at Varsity Theater.

EDIT To Add: I just checked website and this show is SOLD OUT!
