Tony– I can only speak for Lucinda and the answer is yes we do. I know the question has also been raised here if there is anything that can be done and if the companies in question listen. The short answer is not much and no. They are large and very powerful companies that have been allowed to go to the very edge of questionable practices-and in cases that Tom showed, far over the edge. Unfortunately nobody is going to tell them what to do without some type regulatory reform, and with the recent merger being allowed to go thru many saw it as a missed opportunity to take a closer look at what is happening in the ticketing/live music industry. To much disappointment that did not happen and now will probably not be even looked at again for a long time. Obviously the thing they look at is ticket sales, and obviously as an artist mgr you can’t tell people to stop buying tickets, because that isn’t going to work out too well for the artists is it?
We will continue to look for ways to make what should be a simple process of buying a ticket and going to a show a non-headache. I am always looking at what other methods other artists are using and trying to see if there is anything we can implement. Hopefully when we go back out we can address some of the issues, because it is something that we really care about –but too often our hands are tied behind our back. But we will continue to try.

February 24, 2010 at 3:34 am #42085tntracyParticipantThanks for posting your thoughts, Tom. I’ll never understand why the TM/LN merger was approved. When a particular market is dominated by a monopoly or near-monopoly, abuses such as the ticket over sales that I linked to above occur. Yet and still, despite such abuses, the merger serves only to further solidify TM’s monopoly status in many / most markets. Why do we even have governmental regulators?!?! 🙄 👿

March 27, 2010 at 2:37 pm #42086LWjettaParticipantIt seems our “Friends?” over at Ticket Master/Live Nation are now trying to disguise their fees ( i.e. convenience fees etc.)
This is for the upcoming Eagles / Dixie Chicks Tour. The Eagles, Dixie Chicks and Keith Urban* will be touring together for the first time when they hit the road on June 8th for a North American stadium concert tour. Tour dates and lineup is listed below and un the tour section. The Eagles – Glenn Frey, Don Henley, Joe Walsh and Timothy B. Schmit – will perform hits from their more than 35-year career, such as “Hotel California,” “Desperado,” “Life In The Fast Lane,” “Lyin’ Eyes,” “Take It To The Limit,” “One Of These Nights,” “Heartache Tonight,” and more. The Dixie Chicks – Martie Maguire, Emily Robison and lead singer Natalie Maines – will hit the stage for the first time in four years, performing songs from all four of their albums including smash hits, “Wide Open Spaces,” “Goodbye Earl,” and “Not Ready to Make Nice.” Urban’s career has produced some of the industry’s best known and most loved songs – 11 #1s. “Days Go By,” “Sweet Thing,” Who Wouldn’t Wanna Be Me,” “You’ll Think of Me,” “Better Life,” as well as Billboard’s Country Song of the Decade, “Somebody Like You,” will highlight Urban’s performance. American Express® Cardmembers will have early access to tickets beginning Monday, March 22nd at 10:00 AM and tickets go on sale to the general public beginning Monday, March 29, 2010 at 10:00 AM. Check http://www.LiveNation.com for complete ticket information which allows fans to purchase tickets without any added fees and streamlines the ticket buying process. 8-Jun *Toronto, ON Rogers Centre
10-Jun East Rutherford, NJ New Meadowlands Stadium
I went through the Dixie Chicks presale process up to where they want your credit card info and it appears they have now hidden their fees except for print your own ticket and delivery fees.
Now we can’t see how much we are being gouged.
By the way, ticket prices for the first show at the Rogers Centre ( a 50,000+ seat venue ) go all the way up to $225. Too rich for me.

Ya know the Eagles to me are the ORIGINAL price gougers. I went to many of their concerts, but their prices got waaay out of hand. They are the first to do this, I only wish I knew dates/prices. And that ‘gold circle’ seating really frosts my butt- another way for someone to show how better off they are than everyone else.
AND ANOTHER THING- the tripling of fees wouldn’t bother me if if it wasn’t all computerized- there is no justification to charge for a simple electronic transfer.

lwjNovember 24, 2011 at 4:29 am #42090tntracyParticipantAny one else besides me get an e-mail notice today of a class-action lawsuit against TicketMaster for order processing fees paid between October 21, 1999 & October 19, 2011? 😉 😆
Tom
December 5, 2011 at 6:52 pm #42091tntracyParticipantFound out the proposed settlement for the class action law suit is as follows: if you used Ticketmaster to purchase tickets between October 21, 1999 and October 19, 2011, you’re entitled to a $1.50 credit per ticket order on up to 17 orders per customer. And if you had UPS deliver the tickets, you’ll receive an additional $5.00 credit per ticket. If customers claim less than $11.25 million, Ticketmaster will donate the rest to charity.
I don’t use UPS for delivery, but I almost assuredly had more than 17 ticket orders in that timeframe, so the max I could receive is $25.50. Oh well, that will about cover a cheap dinner out for me & the Lovely Wife… 😐

I got the email notification as well and thought that was sooooo lame of a settlement! I’ve purchased at least 100 tickets in that time frame, about 95% of those being for you-know-who. 😀
