Thanks for that duet version w/EC, LWj.
And thanks again for helping pin down the mysterious yet glorious “KGSR Blue.”
December 3, 2009 at 11:14 pm #41317TOverbyParticipantWell I finally got a chance to play this version for Lucinda and unfortunately she wasn’t sure where it came from either but figured that it probably was a radio station recording. I mentioned KGSR and she said “it could be, but i’m not sure because I’ve done a lot of those”. Big help she is.
I have asked Lost Highway to see if they can come up with a copy that might be buried somewhere in their office, and they are going to look, and get back to me.December 3, 2009 at 11:17 pm #41318TOverbyParticipantOk-how’s this for a quick update–as i was typing the above post an email came in from Lost Highway, and they have indeed located a copy of this cd and it is on its way.

Ah, the perks of having “inside connections”! No getting outbid time after time on eBay for you, TO! 😆 😆
The definitive answer will hopefully soon be at hand. And, if I were a betting man, I’d bet it is going to be this KGSR version. After all, what other version has floated around enough, i.e., from two different limited release CDs, so that it would be on LimeWire for the YouTuber to grab?.

I agree also, so I thought I would put together a small list of Thank You’s for all those who contrbuted to this Mystery “BLUE“
1. To Drunken Angel for getting us all started.
2. For the Detective work: Tn”Dick”Tracy, DR.W and Inside Job.
3. Our 3 Corporate Friends. KGSR-FM,Google and the image below.
Finally the BIGGEST thank you to Lucinda Gayl for her inspiring music.
T Overby, when you receive the proof, any way you could have WEBMASTA add it to the Forum’s record page?
So I wonder what the next trivia question will be in the forum.

December 5, 2009 at 12:16 am #41321tntracyParticipantAnd MUCHAS GRACIAS to you, too, LWJ, for your fine detective work. Without your zeroing in on the KGSR connection, I don’t think we’d be as close as we are to the answer! 😉

December 6, 2009 at 5:13 pm #41323LWjettaParticipantFurther “detective ” work
This appears to be the detailed track list from the KGSR CD showing interviews etc. and you will note Blue ( live in studio) track time of 3:37. ( co-incides with Drunken Angel’s “stripped down” version).http://www.racksandtags.com/sandman13/1739344/Lucinda-Williams-In-Touch-With-Lucinda-Williams
Hope when T. Overby receives the CD from Lost Highway, that he can post a picture of the back cover.

Your detective work is beyond fantastic. Google pales in comparison.I found this quote below on the Flickr page where you found the caricature of Lucinda–another great find–and it literally gave me chills. A simple quote but so apropos.
I was driving alone in my car when I listened to the album “Essence” for the first time. The sun wasn’t up yet, and I was on a lonely stretch of highway, and the song “Blue” came on. It was so beautiful and heartbreaking. I couldn’t believe it.
December 19, 2009 at 12:52 am #41325Itchy SkinParticipantHey everybody – long-time lurker, first time poster.
I’m also the guy that won the aforementioned eBay auction for the “In Touch” CD (sorry about that Mr. tntracy…). I can confirm that the version of “Blue” heard on that You Tube video has been taken from this CD. The credits list Lu for vocals and acoustic guitar; Bo Ramsey electric guitar; Billy Watts acoustic guitar; recorded March 15, 2001 on 107.1 KGSR Radio Austin. The interview with Jody Denberg was recorded April 27, 2001 and is pretty much verbatim to the transcript posted earlier in this thread – some of Jody’s questions have been edited down in length a little in the transcript, and his intro wasn’t included either, but all of her side of the interview is in the transcript. The first song track is a “Super Clean Edit” version of “Essence” which means they just laid, what sounds like some distorted power chords, over the F-bomb… a not very subtle editing job! Also includes the album versions of “Lonely Girls”, “Get Right With God”, “Out Of Touch” and “Broken Butterflies”
I’m pretty happy with it – there’s a lot of Lu speaking which is nice ’cause I really like listening to the lilt of her voice. And this version of “Blue”, as you’re all aware, is fantastic; however, there is a slight buzzing noise audible throughout that track which you can hear on the You Tube version too…
December 19, 2009 at 12:59 am #41326Drunken AngelParticipantHey, thanks for that confirmation, Itchy. And for the additional details on the In Touch editon.
I did not notice the buzz in the song but my hearing is not that great anyway.

No problemo, Itchy. If I had to lose it to someone, I’m glad I lost it to someone here in the forum, lurker or not.
Plus, it got you to join & post, so you are no longer just a lurker – a “win – win” for all! Welcome to the forum, and thanks for definitively solving the mystery for us! 😀

Wow, Ichy Skin, another Canuck beat out our Moderator (Tnt) by $0.50 on this CD bidding.
It really was an interesting mystery for me and a lot of fun using Google and Yahoo to the max. This “Blue” thread with 56 replies and 752 views so far was rapidly approaching The “Ra-Cha-Cha Last Night Report” with 38 replies and 1205 views. Everyone will remember Lefty and others were game to stretch the thread for two or three weeks until Lu and Buick 6 headed to Australia / New Zealand.
Anyway, we are confident T. Overby will add this recording to the record page for all to enjoy once he receives the disc from Lost Highway.
