Some of the most intelligent writing Ive seen on a fan forum, well done to you all (Im lost on the indigo Girls/lesbians reference -who cares anyway).
Ray says it all really.
Id just add from the male/female debate – actually, we’re not that different. I can lay on the bed and moan at the ceiling too.September 26, 2007 at 2:35 pm #33092tntracyParticipant@johnp wrote:

Not strange at all!
Blues and Rock are Soul Mates.
Both Lucinda Williams and Led Zeppelin are riffed with blues – which by the way is probably why her music (along with her lyrics and voice) appeal to me so much.
I’m also a Neil Young fan from way back.

Great topic!
Since then I have bought all her CDs, been to see her approx. 8 to 10 times (first time – 9/8/01 – can hardly forget, given the events that would unfold a few days later…), and she is unquestionably my favorite artist (I do have an admitted eclectic taste – I also love Led Zeppelin, so go figure!).

Look forward to reading more of this thread in detail, as I am engaged in some serious fan studies of GLB Dusty Springfield fans, and help run the Let’s Talk Dusty! forum. We have a huge variety of fans from around the world, from teens to retirees, male, female and undisclosed, gay, straight, bi, and refused to be labeled yada yada. I love the variety of voices and perspectives, although it can be dangerous to generalize too much of course. And am a HUGE Lucinda fan as well, obviously. She rocks my world! But I don’t have a crush on her. Go figure.

i think Lucinda has enough on the ball (cojones?) to know exactly what she does to the guys with some of her lyrics. my wife and sister think she’s too whiny and rough, but i think she’s the bees kneesl. maybe theyre jealous of a boozy, bluesy broad that can get down to it, and enjoy it. it’s what shes singing just as much as how she sings and how you can relate to it.
i also think she has a good ear for nice melodies. lastly but certainly not leastly, she seems to have knack for enlisting help from great musicians (from Gurf Morlix to Doug P and everyone inbetween) who contribute their considerable talent and experience to the material.
sure, she’s moody, but who ain’t? it could be a lot worse, i just was reading some stuff about Jim Morrison…
August 10, 2008 at 9:05 pm #33096StanParticipantFor me, it’s the simplicity, and at the same time the complexity of her songwriting. How can someone take as few as two or three chords and write such beautiful music?
On another note, I also love how some of her songs can sound “country” yet the guitar work can be off the wall feedbacked laced rock driven punk. (For lack of a better description)
These two elements shouldn’t fit, yet they work perfectly in Lucinda’s songs.
Dirt Red Girl…I’ve seen Lucinda at the Pageant, and I agree..great shows. My first knowledge of Lucinda was when she opened for Neil Young during his Greendale tour at UMB bank pavillion, or whatever they’re calling that place these days?
(Ahem) Maybe we could meet next pageant show? Just a thought? You’re a musician, right? Same here.
