I’m assuming the book is the liner notes and lyrics that Lu includes in her CD’s. I am so appreciative that Lucinda does that still… I savor the reading the lyrics. It’s like having a little book of poetry included with the CD 🙂

I thought that might be it. I used to occasionally see larger booklets as exclusives at some stores that have the same content as the liner notes. The only difference was that the booklet was larger than the insert. One of Bob Dylan’s releases had one of those exclusive to Best Buy books if I’m recalling correctly.

    DavidW,

I was just passing by my local Best Buy yesterday and checked the version of Ghosts that they had in stock. Exactly the same as other editions, no extra booklet, same SKU.

Thanks,DavidK. I went ahead and ordered the CD elsewhere and also got the digital files. I’ll be getting it on vinyl too. I don’t know why Best Buy advertised it that way.

Ha, I don’t speak Croatian, but I think Zagreb or Split (Dalmatian Coast?) would be a fine place for Lu’s summer tour to hit. Dubrovnik, anyone?

Short and sweet review, but the line “It’s the kind of music that the wind carries, soaring between the bones that make up the skeleton of this country.” (!!)

The “Year in Music” piece in the December 2016/January 2017 issue of Garden & Gun rightfully declares The Ghosts of Highway 20 as its Album of the Year:

“Lucinda Williams released her latest epic way back in February, which seems like a billion years ago. But it’s an album that continues to reveal its lyrical nooks and crannies and her most personal record to date (and that’s saying something). Williams’s unparalleled storytelling resonates as her voice groans with weariness and reflection on ‘Death Came’ and ‘If There’s a Heaven,’ seethes with contempt on ‘Dust,’ and soothes on the touching ‘Place in my Heart.’ The renowned Bill Frisell is the lights-out guest instrumentalist, filling her songs with shimmering guitar. Though it’s heavy-duty stuff, no one but Williams can make heartache and longing so compelling.”

I don’t really agree with the review’s descriptions of the emotions conjured by specific songs (“seethes with contempt on ‘Dust'”??), but we all have our own personal relationships with Lu’s songs. 🙂

The 2017 Grammy nominations were announced Tuesday, Dec. 6, 2016. I read the entire list of nominees in 84 categories, and I note the absence of Lucinda and The Ghosts of Highway 20. Considering the many positive reviews, I’m puzzled by this result. I believe the release date of Feb. 5, 2016 met the Product Eligibility Period.

I couldn’t believe GOH20 wasn’t nominated for Best Americana Album. Especially (and no disrespect intended) in light of the actual nominees. Maybe the Grammys just don’t have it together yet in this relatively new award category.
