i know you were hoping this was one of those “other posts” but no, just a set list from the fillmore.
i knew there was a reason i was dying to go to this show!
(lucinda singing angel for mitch mitchell) and there’s still tonight! hope someone who was there will post a review! dang i wish i could have made it up to the fillmore, i love that place.
Lucinda Williams kicked off her two-night stand at the Fillmore with a lot of smiles, a good mix of new and old stuff, and a beautiful solo acoustic Jimi Hendrix cover in memory of Jimi Hendrix Experience drummer Mitch Mitchell, who died Wednesday. Lucinda was decked out in red pants and a tight black t-shirt that read “Love is a drug.” She said she came up with completely different set lists for the two shows, so if you have your heart set on hearing any of the following songs, don’t go tonight:
Real Love / I Just Wanted to See You So Bad / Steal Your Love / Fruits of My Labor / People Talking / Overtime / Jailhouse Tears / Can’t Let Go / Sweet Side / Out of Touch / Little Rock Star / Essence / Changed the Locks / Atonement / Unsuffer Me / Real Live Bleeding Fingers and Broken Guitar Strings / Honey Bee / Righteously // Angel (Hendrix cover) / For What It’s Worth (Buffalo Springfield cover) / It’s a Long Way to the Top (AC/DC cover)
(I trust you’ll let me know nicely if I got any of those wrong.)
Oh, and her backing band, Buick 6, opened with a set of what Williams later called “groovalicious” instrumentals, including a version of Led Zeppelin’s “Black Dog” that they called “White Kitty.” Doug Pettibone took the mike for their last number, a version of Neil Young’s “Cinnamon Girl” that took a brief detour into “When You Dance I Can Really Love.”
