What’s the story behind this song?

I don’t know that Lu has ever talked about any specific event inspiring this song. Maybe someone else here has heard her tell of one. But, I do know that suicide is a theme in several of her other songs; “Out Of Touch” – “I ask about an old friend that we both used to know, you said you heard he took his life about five years ago””, 2 Kool 2 Be 4-gotten” – “He asked me, ‘baby, would you jump into the water with me?’ I told him, ‘no way, baby, that’s your own death, you see'”, and, of course, “Pineola”, which is about the suicide of a family friend, poet Frank Stanford, when Lu was 25 years old. While I am sure this event in particular deeply affected Lu, I do not recall any one else who Lu was close to who took their own life.
