My favorite line I like to use when I know I cannot attend is…

I would have divorce papers waiting for me 😆 (if I took off for Arkansas so shortly after returning from Nashville).

Reminds me of a little Southern joke, Lafayette. .

Q: What do tornadoes and divorces have in common–at least in the state of Arkansas?

    A: ???????????

    Oh

    My

    GOSH! 😯

Thanks to the INCREDIBLE generosity of a Friendly Forum member with some of her frequent flyer miles, and my securing a free suite at the Staybridge Inn 2 miles from the venue for the unbelievable rate of ONLY 5000 priority club points (I had only 7400 points left in my account after our SoCal trip!), I am going to this show!!! WOOT! 😀 😆 😀 😆

Thank you West Words! You are THE BEST!!!

    Tom

P.S. Stoger, I believe the answer to your riddle is, “In either case, somebody is losing a trailer…” 😉 But, I have always heard it as, “How are a tornado, a hurricane & a Southern divorce similar?”

What a great opportunity ( It’s a “Rarity” ) for you Tom to make this memorable occasion.
I “Googled” Lucinda Williams solo acoustic performances and found nothing. Perhaps you or other forum members know of some.
Anyway, I knew Lucinda and her dad Miller were in a very special concert / poetry event at the Poetry Center in Chicago back in June 2004.
I thought the readers might like to see Miller’s profound words for President Clinton’s Inaugural address back in 1997 together with a pic.
Enjoy the read.[attachment=0:3lob7jay]President Clinton’s Inaugral poem by Miller Williams.jpg[/attachment:3lob7jay]

    Of History and Hope
    We have memorized America,
how it was born and who we have been and where.
In ceremonies and silence we say the words,
telling the stories, singing the old songs.
We like the places they take us. Mostly we do.
The great and all the anonymous dead are there.
We know the sound of all the sounds we brought.
The rich taste of it is on our tongues.
But where are we going to be, and why, and who?
The disenfranchised dead want to know.
We mean to be the people we meant to be,
to keep on going where we meant to go.
But how do we fashion the future? Who can say how
except in the minds of those who will call it Now?
The children. The children. And how does our garden grow?
With waving hands — oh, rarely in a row —
and flowering faces. And brambles, that we can no longer allow.
Who were many people coming together
cannot become one people falling apart.
Who dreamed for every child an even chance
cannot let luck alone turn doorknobs or not.
Whose law was never so much of the hand as the head
cannot let chaos make its way to the heart.
Who have seen learning struggle from teacher to child
cannot let ignorance spread itself like rot.
We know what we have done and what we have said,
and how we have grown, degree by slow degree,
believing ourselves toward all we have tried to become —
just and compassionate, equal, able, and free.
All this in the hands of children, eyes already set
on a land we never can visit — it isn’t there yet —
but looking through their eyes, we can see
what our long gift to them may come to be.
If we can truly remember, they will not forget.

    President Clinton’s Inaugural Address 1997
What a great Father / Daughter team
    Enjoy Fayetteville.

Several years ago, Sarah & I drove up to The Belcourt Theater in Nashville to see Lu & Miller together in a show called “Poetry Spoken, Poetry Sung”. The format was simple but awesome – Miller would read a poem, then Lu would play a song on acoustic guitar & sing. Then a poem, then a song, etc. (I think this is the same type of performance you mention that was in Chicago, LWJ…)

I only remember Lu on stage with Miller; but, maybe Doug P. was there as well – my memory is not what it used to be. I know some other FF members were there – perhaps they can help me out…

N’mind stoger & paul_from_losangeles – I just found the info below here. As you can see from the brief write-up, Doug was indeed there.

So, this WILL be my first true Lu solo show (and my memory DOES stink! 😉 )…

Yes, TN Tracy answered the joke correctly, though the pithier “Somebody’s gonna lose a trailer” would have been my official answer. I don’t suppose anyone would want to hear the only other joke, Southern or otherwise, which I have in my repertoire? It’s about Southern girls and sex.

    QUOTE” From the Fayetteville Flyer
George’s Majestic Lounge nominated for ACM Award
    By Dustin · March 2, 2010 4:20 pm · 2 Comments
The Academy of Country Music announced the nominees for its annual music awards today, and a venue from right here in Fayetteville is on the list.
Out of all the bars in the country, George’s Majestic Lounge is one of only five nominated in the Night Club of the Year category by the professional membership of the Academy of Country Music.
Here’s the criteria for the category, from the ACM website:
This award is presented to an outstanding country music nightclub, selected by a panel of Blue Ribbon Judges. The panel will submit 5 (five) nominees, which will be placed on the ballot once approved by the Board. The nightclub must have bought or promoted at least 10 (ten) country concerts/dates during the prior calendar year of January 1st to December 31st, be in good standing with all agents and help promote country ticket sales. The winner from the previous year is ineligible for a consecutive nomination in this category.
The winner in the Nightclub of the Year category, as well as the rest of the non-televised awards will be announced later this month.
    Other nominees include:
    · Billy Bob’s Texas – Ft. Worth, TX
    · Buck Owens’ Crystal Palace – Bakersfield, CA
    · Cotton Eyed Joe – Knoxville, TN
    · Wild Bill’s – Duluth, GA
Who cares about all those other venues? Go George’s.
    END QUOTE”
George’s didn’t win by the way.
Tntracy, please ensure your batteries for your camera are all charged up.
I know y’all are sure charged up.
    Enjoy.

HA! Wild Bill’s?!?! I’ve been there & I’d pick George’s Majestic Lounge over that place just based on what I have seen on George’s Web site. Wild Bill’s is a huge, cavernous place in front of Gwinnett (County) Place Mall & is actually an old Service Merchandise catalog store. It’s fun to go to (especially for the guys – think dancing girls on top of the bars a la “Coyote Ugly”), but is is far from a “historic” venue…

I will have a camera at the ready, LWJ, but, of course, will be mindful of the house rules & atmosphere before I “shoot away” – esp. w/ flash. I’ll have to play it by “ear”…

Thanks for the well wishes & the info about George’s – you are truly a “Lu researcher extraordinaire”… 😉
