I’m sorry to report the untimely passing of member SonO earlier this year. My guess is that a number of you here knew Sonny a lot better than I. I only had a few communications with him, but he came across as a good and gentle soul. Rest in peace, Sonny.

Never knew Sonny, only from, reading with interest, his posts on here, and it was obvious he was an avid music fan and an even more avid Lucinda fan, with a great love for music.

Sad and sorry to hear this news.

Bless his heart. I’d wondered where he’d gotten off to.

I’ve asked the site administrator if he/she would consider putting a modest verbal memorial to Sonny on the Forum index page. It could be as simple as “Sonny, in memoriam.” I don’t think Sonny’s son would object.

You know, Lefty, I think that would be lovely. SonO was one of her really staunch supporters, and loved her music an awful lot. It was a good idea.

I plan to keep pushing politely for this, Rachel. There’s no hurry, but I’d like to see it done sooner than later. Thanks for the support.

Moving this back up top until we get a permanent memorial to SonO…

You’re a good man, Lefty. I only know about him from the posts currently in the forum — and, sadly, there are just a couple that we can read now. (I tried.) If there are archived posts from SonO — and it appears there must be many — maybe they could also be re-posted for those of us who missed them.

I’ll honor him by listening to the music choices that he shared with us… Peace to SonO.

Here’s some posts I found on another Lucinda Williams website.

Your welcome, Lefty. He used to frequent that site often, but then his posts just stopped. That was probably when he was sick. He loved Lucinda’s music, but he didn’t mince words when the fan club had ripped off alot of people; he kept fighting for them ( and himself). He was also not happy about what was happening to Lucinda’s band, and new direction. I miss him very much.

Lefty, one more thing about SonO; I can remember him posting a message (it may have been on the old forum here), that said his house was almost completely destroyed by Hurricane Katrina and that he was spending all his time & money trying to rebuild it. I believe he said in it that he was sleeping outside.

Good morning, Tim. Here’s an excerpt from a pm SonO sent me last November…

Many good folk from your great state have been down here working with the relief and rebuilding effort in the aftermath of hurricane Katrina. The rebuilding will be ongoing for years. I’m still living with a FEMA trailer in my front yard. I’m back and forth between sleeping in the trailer and the house depending on what project I’m on. I spent 3 months in a tent in the front yard after the storm while waiting on the trailer. My home is just a few blocks from the Gulf and one half mile from the Pascagoula River to the west…My home is on piers, and I still had 5+ feet of water in the house. My 27 yr old son, 13 yr old Rat Terrier & I rode the storm out right here. Life jackets for all three of us and a 17ft Tandem Ocean Kayak was our last resort.

I barely knew the guy, but I miss his presence here a lot 🙁
