My thanks to Lucinda for getting involved with helping Slim get back on his feet. I look forward to purchasing the song.

You can start bidding on Lucinda’s contribution starting March 15th.
A cover of Slim’s song “Partners in Crime” A side of a 7″ vinyl 45lwj
January 15, 2013 at 11:53 pm #50613tntracyParticipant45 RPM vinyl only? One would think that they could raise more money if they included other formats… π
I reckon this is one Lu “special song” that won’t be a part of my collection, unfortunately…

February 28, 2013 at 3:34 pm #50614vinylfanParticipantFrom the Songs for Slim website:
‘Phase One of the project β the auction of a limited edition run of 250 numbered copies of a brand new, deluxe 10β vinyl EP package by The Replacements, their first new release in over 20 years β went off with a BANG, raising $105,743.42 for Slim and his family! This staggering amount far exceeded any expectations; the Dunlaps, the Songs For Slim team and New West Records are deeply humbled by this overwhelming response of love and support. Nearly 6,500 individual bids were made and almost 4,000 people participated in the 10-day auction. Copy #1 went for an astounding $10,000 to a Replacements ΓΌber fan in Brooklyn, a price that puts it in very elite company for auctions of rock era vinyl”
I think they did pretty darn well. The Steve Earle / Craig Finn release seems to have done well also. And a digital release is in the works so that the masses can at least get the songs.
Tom, you can get “commercial” copies soon. Again, from the website:
“The music will be delivered to radio on March 4 and be available digitally worldwide on March 5. A commercial 12β vinyl version (without all of the bells and whistles of the limited 10β edition) will be released to retail stores on Tuesday, April 16.”
Thanks again Lucinda, for taking part. I can’t remember how many times I’ve seen Slim play over the years, but it’s been a lot. He’s a Minneapolis treasure.

The “commercial” 12″ vinyl version does me no good – I do not have a turntable (except one that’s been in the box in a closet for 20 years with no place to put it to hook it up to my receiver). BUT, “available digitally worldwide on March 5” sounds cool, as long as it will be at a high enough bitrate (at least 256 bps)! π
Thanks for the info, vinylfan…

March 14, 2013 at 6:13 pm #50616tntracyParticipantApparently, the songs available for digital download March 5th are just the 5 recorded by The Replacements as an EP entitled “Songs For Slim”. Here are the links for iTunes and Amazon.
BUT, Lu’s contribution (“Partners in Crime”) is not due for release until March 15th via auction for the 45 RPM single, with a promise that the song will be available for digital download post-auction…

March 15, 2013 at 1:36 pm #50617vinylfanParticipantIf I can afford it, I’ll pick one up and record it for you. That’s a huge if. I’ll let ya know in a week. Any idea when the auction begins, other than today?

Wow, vinylfan, that is such a generous offer (“huge ‘if'”understood!). No, I have no idea when the auction is starting or even how to bid. But please don’t go out of your way in getting a copy (unless you just want to for yourself!) – I am sure I can procure a digital copy once the auction is over. Or, like the linked-to page says, there may even be an album compilation released! I would think they ultimately would do that, as it would maximize the money raised for Mr. Dunlap…

March 15, 2013 at 3:47 pm #50619vinylfanParticipantI’m selfish, I want it for myself… and if I can afford it, one will be mine. I spend a lot of time recording LP’s. A simple 45 would take about 10 minutes. I was a bit surprised by the Craig Finn prices so I’m not getting my hopes up. We’ll see how it all shakes out.
March 16, 2013 at 1:00 am #50620tntracyParticipantWell, #1/100 has already been bid up to $152.50 on eBay… π―
Tom
March 16, 2013 at 3:46 pm #50621tntracyParticipant#1/100 has hit $200, but the rest of the lot of 100 has been listed on eBay, all with starting bids of $50. Just search on “Lucinda Williams b/w Tommy Keene Songs For Slim”…
