I don’t think Sara’s music has been discussed on the forum before, but as we know, seems like many, many artists have a link with Lucinda.

Sara was recently awarded the title of Official State Musician of Texas.
Has released > 15 albums and is a great listen.
Ok, now the Lu connection from the early 90’s. Sara’s First True Concert.
Lu’s kindness just keeps on flowing to other artists.

    First concert worked
I was 10 and with my first band in elementary school–four girls and four guitars–but my first true concert, in my mind, was opening for Lucinda Williams in Lawrence, Kansas at a juke joint. I was on my first solo tour in conjunction with a band called Killbilly, a punk-bluegrass band of six guys. They called and said, “Hey, you have a record out, we can get press…and we’re a band, so we can get club gigs.” So we toured together and were asked to open for Lucinda. When we got to the club, the owner said, “No way I’m having three acts on the bill.” When we complained, the owner said I could perform while the bar was being set up before folks were let into the club.
So I played to an empty hall. Then the doors were opened, Killbilly played, and then Lucinda came on to a packed house. I’d never met her, but I really enjoyed her songs. I stood in the audience as she finished her set, she announced, “…and now, I’d like to bring up my friend Sara Hickman, to close out the show!.” I gasped, grabbed my guitar, jumped on stage and played to a huge, eager audience.
I tell this story because so many awful stories are told about the music industry, but these are the kinds of moments I have been blessed to experience. After the show, I met Lucinda, and I gave her an antique bolo tie I’d been wearing. I told her I would never forget her kindness, and I would share the same generosity with other performers.

Listen to her live from KUT-FM Austin, TX from 09/22/2010
