ParticipantWow, lwj, the interior trumps the rather bland off-white exterior, which I just tripped an hour ago, spitting distance from my hotel. Let´s see the tour bus park it on a dime in this particular cobblestone alley! So far the poster count in this town is 2:1 in favor of Ms. Jewel, the lone Lu poster a facismile of the generic one for the Spanish tour as a whole. Eilen gets top billing in a city centre “Compostela Cultural” display, with a likeness. There´s also a funky abstract poster of her in all white, whether with angel’s wings or honeybees swarming about her midriff I´m not sure. IN any case, kudos to Hello Cleveland Mgmt. for taking a broad, non-self interested view in this publicity campaign, if kudos are due. . . .

Participant1 Can’t Let Go
2 People Talkin’ (don’t know where Doug was during the “gossip and wagging tongues” bit)
3 Pineola
4 Jackson (sans pedal steel)
5 Greenville (with steel)
6 When I Look at the World
7 I Envy the Wind [the name “Leila Downs” doesn’t draw a crowd reaction, but this song does, a hushed appreciation from the get-go]
8 Born to Be Loved
9 I Lost It [Lu attempts a translation of the title, with little crowd reaction]
10 Drunken Angel
11 Something Wicked. . . [somehow the phrase “preacher-humpin'” just doesn’t quite resonate to Galician audiences]
12 Hard Time Killing…
13 Real Live Bleeding…[tour debut?]
14 Essence
15 Changed the Locks
16 Joy
17 HOneybee18 West [by request]
19 Blessed
20 Ventura [??!!?!?–extra Book pages get inserted here, to delightful effect]
21 Get Right with GodLu pronounced the crowd one of the best on the tour, and truly it was a spirited bunch–if a bit non-conversant with the Southern Gothic strains of Lucinda. For a show that supposedly wasn’t selling too well in advance, the outcome seemed fine–pretty packed from the soundboard on up. I believe there was one less table on the floor than pictured on lwj’s post. Like Zurich, there was no opener, though finally the shows seem to be starting at a reasonable Lu hour (22:00). Good to see guitar tech Jason and his wife at Ristorante La Comida across the alley prior to show. A new Nick is the sound guy, haven’t chatted with him yet. Matt Blake, Doug, David, Tom, Eric, Lu and bus driver (Carl?): that’s it, folks. They say the bus is the best ever, so maybe lwj can somehow nab a pic of said Continental Metal Firecracker. I hear they are meeting up with Eilen Jewell in Madrid on the mutual off day today, so be safe everyone. Until the Joy Eslava.. .

ParticipantGreat reporting as usual stoger.
Good to see Lu is meeting up with Eilen (aka Queen of the minor key) in Madrid.
I’ll keep a look out for a pic of the Continental metal firecracker-heck you must have brought a camera ?
Is Matt manning the merch table ?-Any new T’s ?Here we go with the setlist finale “Get Right with God”- Certainly lots of enthusiasm both on and off stage.
A lucky fan got a setlist from Dougie.
Safe and enjoyable travels to all.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L4feN1cIumE

ParticipantLWJ, Matt is nominally head of merch, but he has a lot of loading in/loading out on-stage duties. Each night he has an underling [wo]manning the table, varying degrees of multi-linguality and attractiveness. My favorite was Zurich, where there were copies of Blessed–“special Swiss edition,” the young lady said. It took me a minute to see that she meant the alternate cover with the boy in a Swiss flag t-shirt. In fact, there were no CD´s, only t-shirts, in Brussels, and I think in Santiago too. I believe there was a distribution snafu, some cost-prohibitive factor in shipping. Among the shirts is a variation on the Doug and Lu one–a threesome including David now! Discreetly, the young Swiss woman took a gander at my midsection and said, in lovely broken English, “medium only, unfortunately for you.” Touche.
Yes, the spirit of St. James lives in this town, bigsubi. I´m only four hours away from my overnight coach to Madrid. . . .

KeymasterHilarious.
I went to a show at Molly Malones a couple years ago and visited the merchandise table after the show to buy a CD. I inquired about a T-shirt and the woman, who I have since gotten to know semi-well, merely said “We have no extra large”. I remind her of this every time I see her.
