Thanks for a great report, Tony–with a Tom correction on a WWT tune.

Wow, Dylan & Cooke in same encore. And I trust the “full” version of “Faith and Grace” was done. There are two, maybe three versions, right Tom?

LIve debuts for “Place in My Heart” and “Doors of Heaven”, kinda. I believe the former might have been done once prior to record release. Doors was done years ago, but I will love hearing it live in its new format/arrangement.

Born to Be Loved?????? Blake Mills did that one great, Doug too if I remember aright.

Yes, we west Tennesseeans will take credit for Charles Lloyd, indeed.

Let’s step up Philly fans, get us to New Haven and NY at least. Mike, you pumped?

Sunday May 8th at The Ryman. The summer is Looking Up! Who all is going?
Neil Young is also playing the new Ascend outdoor theater later in April with Steve Earle opening.

    tonyg, your reports are golden.

Finale from this show. A Change is Gonna Come. Nothing less than amazing.

Finally back home (for a minute) and able to log on again.. Not sure what happens to my mobile device(s) but it seems even with the correct password in hand I am still unable to log on.

Great concert that Tony recapped nicely..
Sean Rowe was really quite good as the opener, but I was a little disappointed he didn’t play the song Lu referred to as “probably the best cover of hers she had ever heard” in the Soldier’s Song. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g2XqhGeEpBQ

Lu sounded phenomenal, as did the band. Her voice just keeps getting stronger.
Having Bill Frisell and Greg on stage for the night was a real treat and the accoustics were incredible in the hall. As Tony mentioned, Bill really seemed to be having a great time the whole evening.

I had forgotten that there was yet another special guest by the time Charles Lloyd took the stage, but Wow, did he bring a new flavor to the already rich stew. Amazing versions of Joy and Still I Long for your kiss, and killer version of Faith & Grace.

The crowd pretty much stayed in their seats for the whole show (including encores) which kind of threw me.. So much so that I ended up leaning against the wall and standing after the first encore and waiting for others to join.. never happened. Also odd was when my phone was vibrating to alert me that Lucinda was on Periscope.. only to look up to see Tom filming. Nice to be in attendance when that happens for a change.

Also learned some new LA slang from the news media while I was there..
Apparently what we routinely call light rain and light wind or Monday and Tuesday in the NW, they call “StormDay1 and StormDay2”.. odd. They also explained the concept of rain “puddling” on the roads in great detail. Handy info.

A huge thanks to Vivian for sending me her ticket which was several rows better than the one I came with. I tried to find someone who needed my extra ticket before the show but couldn’t find anyone looking. Would gladly have passed it along.. Good to see Grumpymama and Tony before the show.

Loved Lu’s comment on religion from the concert….
“I ain’t got no religion,” she said, looking around. “This is my religion here.”

Lucinda Williams’ heady hits, played by some heavy hitters

Thanks for the addendum, Mike. As flash flood watches prevail in the MidSouth today, I chuckle at the LA weather slang. Relative to many places, southern California would seem to be nicely high, nicely dry.

Some remarks from T.O. and a corrected set list:

What a special night. With only one night of rehearsal with everyone it was a bit of a highwire act but I think we pulled it off. The smiles on everyone’s faces throughout the night was worth it alone. There was a lot of joy on the stage. It’s not often that schedules will allow some true geniuses to come together for a night and make some incredible, original music together. We’re all still basking in the glow.
